I had my first wig salon visit and oh my how expensive a good wig can be! The stylist recommended a $1500 european virgin hair wig for me but right now it's not an affordable option. What I did get to see is the french lace aka french top aka skin top aka invisible knots aka injected hair (so many names for the same thing). Anyway the french top is amazing, it's where they do a layer of lace, tie hair to it then pull the hair through another layer of lace so you don't see any knots and it gives a dimension to the top that looks exactly like a real scalp with hair growing out of it. I also was able to see how the caps differ so much and decided the best one for me, has to be lightweight, not hot, that would be lace or mesh.
After searching forever on the net for a lace front wig with a french top, already cut/styled, with a cap that fits, I decided on the bohyme lace front (the bohyme.com site says this wig is a stretch cap and one size fits all, no need to custom size it, I'll let you know if that holds true...) I wear my natural hair pushed off my face, brushed back in layers and this wig resembles that style and supposedly gives the natural hairline. I don't wear bangs and can't stand hair in my eyes all the non-lace wigs seem to be of this style? Anyway, I found the best deal for the bohyme wig at www.savebeauty.com $450, some sites have it priced as high as $1500! I guess it pays to shop it around when looking for wigs.. savebeauty.com will also accept returns on unused human hair wigs, not all places do that.
I did buy a yaffa on ebay which I may sell (no returns). I purchased it in a hurry because I'm starting a new residency program in a couple of weeks and wanted to show up with hair. Hair that looked as real as possible because in medicine I get real close to people... The yaffa is very nice, good quality hair, already cut and styled but the cap is wefted (heavier and hotter), no french top, you can't show the hairline, and it has so much hair on it you could make 2 wigs. I did buy a pair of thinning shears and am contemplating thinning it out and keeping it as a backup, depends on how the bohyme goes.. I would not feel comfortable wearing the yaffa for "close encounters."
I'll post pics of my wig experiments soon, it has been extremely helpful to view pics of everyone...
