So it looks like my AT is turning into AU. I've lost the hair on my arms, legs (not so bad!! haha) and the lateral half of my eyebrows. I've been penciling my eyebrows in now for about 2 months and they look really natural but I've come to the point where I don't want to worry about whether or not I've smudged my eyebrow off or not! Has anyone gotten permanent makeup before? If so what was it like and how much was the approximate cost?

Hi Jessica,

I am also probably going to get permanent makeup. I have been in contact with Jeffrey Segal and he has offices in LA, NY, and Chicago (www.bestpermanentmakeup.com). This is what he said in his e-mail: I"t's $550 for eyes or brows, and $1000 as a package for both, including two applications, a month apart, to build color in the skin to achieve the desired results. Future touch ups are $200/single procedure or $350/both."

Hope that helps,
Natalie

Hello, I also have AU and one day while walking with a friend on a windy day ,I said "is my wig on straight", He said "yes, but you are missing an eyebrow".... I knew then I have to have permanent eyebrows done. I had them done here in NH. where I live. It cost 500.00. I did have them touched about a month later. I am very pleased with them. Sometimes I draw a few thin lines on them to make it look more natural. With summer coming, I am looking forward to not having my eye brows run down myface...I am considering doing eye liner too, but for now, I don't mind drawing on my eyeliner.Linda

Thank you both for your comments. I figured it would probably be in the 500$ price range. An esthetician I work with has them done and it was around that much. I think in the long run it will be beneficial. Like Linda said, I won't have to wonder whether or not they're in place or running down my face. I still pencil my eyebrows on before bed because I feel I look odd without them. Thanks for your feedback and I'll be sure to let you know what I do! Jess

Hi Jessica, I had my eyebrows tatooed on many years ago and love it since I had the hardest time drawing them on straight or wiping them off. They have faded over time and I am going to get them redone. I have been in contact with Kim 'Fleming and she has offices in WA, NV,Utah. Her cost is $400 for eyebrows and the same for eyeliner. This includes one touch-up. I would love to have my eyeliner done but I a too much of a chicken for that, so for know I am happy with drawing on my eyeliner.

Hi Jessica,
I had both my eyebrows and eyeliner done over the last few months by Jeffery Segal. I LOVE the results. I actually never penciled in my brows before because they always ended up looking crooked or angry. I feel so much more confident when I make eye contact with people now because I'm no longer worrying if they're looking at my (lack of) eyebrows. Jeff is incredibly talented, but if you can't get to Chicago, LA, or NY to see him, make sure that you do a LOT of research before you commit to a permanent makeup artist. Creating eyebrows where none exist requires an incredible degree of skill, so be sure to choose someone who regularly works with people who have alopecia. Ask to see photos of past clients.

If you're missing your lashes, I also really recommend the permanent eyeliner. I had been using gel liner for a couple of years, but I always looked "made up". The permanent eyeliner is much more subtle to my mind, and I'm very happy with the results. I was also surprised to discover that it wasn't painful -- just uncomfortable.

Oh, I also wanted to mention that you can see a couple of pictures of my brows if you look at the photos on my page. Good luck!

Jessica - I'm in southern Ontario. I'd be curious if you find a good permanent make-up artist - please let me know. I'm interested in permanent brows but have yet to find anyone in my area whose work I like!
