I pulled up to the pharmacy drive-thru and the clerk asked for my name. She came back and forth to the window getting various information. After all the formalities she said, "you know, there's not a lot of women who can pull that off."

People look at you once, then twice, and most likely a third time before going about their business. But I'm very thankful for the few that stop and take a moment to make me smile.

Absolutely right, Jill! More and more often, people just seem to be ignoring the fact that I'm bald. When I do get a comment, it's either a compliment like you had, or it's a cancer inquiry, which I really don't mind. I give the people that ask if I have cancer one of my business cards about AA.

I print up my own cards...just buy Avery double-sided business card stock. They print easily, then break apart. On one side my cards say:

It's not cancer, it's not contagious
IT'S ALOPECIA AREATA

An auto-immune disease affecting 2%
of the population.

Thank you and have a nice day.

On the other side they say:

Check out my videos on YouTube
about Alopecia Areata:

Living a Bald Life

Alternatives to Wearing a Wig

Announcing the National Bald Out!

They look nicer than this - some type is in italics, which didn't come out in this post.

Raising awareness one non-Alopecian at a time! ( ;-)

Thanks for the business card input. I've never thought of that before.
Kaitlin your profile pic is great. It does take confidence to share your baldness with the world, but I found the more that I went out bare the easier it got. Now, I don't even think about covering my head. Blessings!
