I was first diagnosed with Alopecia areata in late 2010, with two nickel size patches of hairloss. It wasn't until March 2011 that all my hair fell out and I was then diagnosed with Alopecia totalis.
My hair started growing back early this year and was hoping to finally shed my wig for the first time in two years. But, the hair loss started again three weeks ago. So, now I am back where I started.
This time around is both harder and easier. I know what to expect as far as the hair loss cycle. But, it is so much harder knowing how close I was to having my hair back. I hate the unpredictability of this disease. I appreciate all that I have, but would have liked to have hair on my head...especially through the winter!
I am sure that many of you have been through this, but curious to know if the relapsing ever stops. How many times can a person's hair fall out completely and grow back again? Or will it just never come back? Really trying to stay positive!
I hear ya. I went three years before it hit again. First time it lasted only 6 months... this time I'm at the year point and I'm pretty sure its getting worse.
Sunflower 25: Thanks for responding. It is so frustrating! My profile pic is one of the only pics I have taken since I was diagnosed with alopecia totalis. It's the only time that I had enough hair! Then, it all has fallen out again within 3 weeks. The first time my hair fell out, it took about 3 months. I hate that it took so long to come back and then fell out so fast. I'm holding my breath right now, praying, hoping, and trying not to worry so much. Good luck to you too!
