Just started a round of shots in my scalp. Anyone know what to expect? We started with a small patch to see how I respond then will do full treatment if I improve. Wish me luck =)

Hi, I have AU but when I just had AA and small spots the treatments seemed to work pretty well. Make sure you have a good dermatologist. The shots are quick but you get a few for each area. I have found that the back of the neck and the temple areas are the most sensitieve. The top and the sides of your head don't seem to have too many nerve endings. You get a threshold for the small needle pain. I used to joke with the docter in the middle of treatment and say "Did you start yet?". Good luck. Everyone gets different results.

thank you! I am not looking forward to the full treatment if this works, but I'd rather endure the pain. How long did it take for you to get AU?

You can read my story on my blog post My Story - From one tiny spot to hairless. What a crazy ride it has been! Just search and you will find it. For the last eight years my AA came back and I fought it for a few years with shots. They usually worked...and believe me, you really get used to the small pain pretty fast...it is worth it when it works. My AA progressed and I finally shaved my head when I had around 50% loss. No it is all gone, not a bit of hair to be found anywhere. I did get my eybrows tatooed. It was a pretty good decision for me..much better than eyebrowz.com makeup.

Go for the shots..deal with the little pain..and hopefully you will see some great results. Remember, everyones AA is different! Keep your spirits up!

I will check out your profile. Thank you for the advice and encouragement. Like all of us, I'm hoping it goes away entirely but am willing to accept to long term reality if needs be. The hardest part is being in the middle of the progression, not knowing whether it will go all the way or subside. Looking like a patchy science experiment is psychologically debilitating. If this is permanent, I want it to happen already so I can be bald without patches.

The shots worked for me. However I am AU now but i aslo have a thyroid issue. I had full regrowth from the injections then i changed my thyroid meds and poof it all went. something to think about, after 4 yrs of no hair i am starting to get regrowth from what i think is taking rather high dose of Vitamin D??? not sure if that's what's starting the regrowth but hey something is working. Good luck ! At any rate you look good with a shaved head so no worries if that's the way it ends up.

I'm thankful for the well shaped head, definitely. Would just like to be at one end or the other. My blood tests revealed a very slight deficiency and normal thyroid. I have been supplementing Vit D as well but havent had any slowing of the hairloss.
