are the spots in alopecia areata supposed to be pink inflamed and painful? mine hurts when I move my hair... is that normal?

I also had painful spots when I was losing my hair. Although it is said to be unusual, I have talked with other alopecia patients who've also had these symptoms. You might try taking an anti-inflammatory or putting an icepack on your head. Sorry you're going through this. Hope you feel better soon.

Ibuprofen - generic, or Advil; good basic anti inflammatory, that kills pain to boot.  Would probably give you relief.....
