Hey everyone, So I was diagnosed AA on Nov, 2015. i have seen many doctors in the city and none of them have actually helped me. After a long wait, I am being treated by Dr. Brett King from Yale University. On July 8th, i had my first appointment. He wanted me to start taking Xeljanz but i refused to the idea of being exposed to Cancer and other side effects. So he gave me 3 pulses of prednisone of 350 mg that i took 1 day only and it would be good for the whole month.

At the beginning of the treatment it stopped a little not completely and i experienced horrible mood changes. first day of the doses felt very active with anxiety and the following days i would feel so depress and like not wanting to live anymore. I have notice that is this medication since i have never felt this way before. However on the first month i saw some sort of improvement but on the second and 3rd month almost nothing and as side effects besides the mood and depression i felt back pain on my kidneys.

unfortunately, i think i am relapsing right now since i am experiencing hair loss and i am seeing new patches. I have my follow up appointment with Dr. King. on Sep 26th but i already know he will want to try the Xeljanz. Has anyone experienced serious side effects from this med???

I will keep you guys updated on this and if i start taking this medication.

As I am reading these blogs my heart goes out to everyone.  I myself suffered from alopecia as a young adult.  My son that is now 25 has suffered since he was in junior high.  I know the stigma and the feelings that are associated with this disease.  My son and I both took steroid injections in the scalp.  A year ago I stumbled on a product called Monat.  I can't tell you how it's changed our lives.  It's simply a shampoo and conditioner that is infused with essential oils.  My son has not had an injection since last October and all his hair is back.  Please check this out.  I became a distributor when I saw the possibilities for my son.  You can contact me via email jbenda2014@outlook.com.   My website is janabenda.mymonat.com.   Please take a look. It is def worth it.

As a father to a teenage daughter who just experienced what you are going through..I can only say that Xeljanz was a miracle drug. My daughter had zero hair on her head/eye brows...and within 2 months her eye brows filled in completely. Her hair is now fully regrown. With normal blood tests..you can monitor your system while on Xeljanz. Dr. King is releasing another round of research reports this month while should help. In short, Xeljanz works but you need to make up your own mind in terms of using this medication. Everything has it's risks. The good news is that your seeing one of the best Doctor's in the country. I'm happy to share any additional information if you want to email me. Good luck on your journey.

Hey everyone,

So this is the update on my process. I went to Dr. King’s appointment. He is the sweetest person I have ever met. As I suspected, he wanted to start the Xeljanz on me. I haven’t started yet because he wanted to do a complete blood work to make sure everything is doing ok with me and I can take this type of medication. However, I know my type of Alopecia is not that bad but it is not that simple either meaning I have a lot of patches in my head more than 20 but I still have hair to kinda hide (I use a bandana everyday to cover my hair line that has reside almost 2 cm) and I have complete eyebrows and complete eyelashes (sort of, I lost a few on my left corner but is not a big deal it is hard to notice) I don’t have any hair on my legs and arms (which gave me laser free hair removal J).

I haven’t started the medication yet. As per Dr. King, he was gonna review all my blood work, which by the way was 8 tubes, and he said he will call me and give me instructions once the medication is ready for me.

I will keep posting my progress and dosage. As for now I will attached a pic of how I look November 2015 and on my next post I will attached my starting point on my first day of Xeljanz. I hope to go back to what I was.

Keeping my faith on this!

Ok so a quick update on what is going on. I haven't receive any news from the doctors office so I called them to see what was the status of it. They said that my insurance rejected the application on Sept. Then in October 7th they appeal the case again to get approval and they rejected again. So Doctor's assistant told me that they are going to keep fighting and they are going for the 3rd appeal. Crossing fingers this will work and hope to get the medication soon.

Weird fact, 2 months after i finished the last prednisone pulses, I am beginning  to see some sort of regrowth. not everywhere but in some areas like my forehead and top of head. I am not sure if this is an effect after finishing the pulses. However, i am still losing hair on a daily basis. It is not a lot i am not sure if i am reaching the 100 you are supposed to lose every day.

on my next post, I will upload pics of my current head :(

Hello,

So another update. My insurance denied the appeal again but I am getting a card on their website to get the medication. it is going to take a while but in the mean time I got it myself so that I can start treatment ASAP.

Today is my second day on this medication. I have to say the first day I got chills and little bit on headache. I am only taking 5mg a day. I have to say that today in the shower I didn't see 1 hair falling from my head. I know it is way too soon to say something but I think this is very good specially for those who has this disease and it is not that advanced.

I will post pics of my head in a few days and an update.

So about it is almost 2 weeks with treatment. Dr.King prescribed 5mg once a day. So far so good. i still get chills that last 12 hours good thing is that they come and go. So is not that i have them all 12 hours. My eczema has completely disappeared. I have had any blood work done yet. My next blood work is in about 15 days hoping for everything be normal. As for the hair, i have notice that the hair fall stooped at least 80%. I am still losing hair but is almost nothing maybe 10 to 20 hairs a day. There have been some days when I havent lose any. As for the regrowth, I have a lot of very tiny baby hairs but not everywhere. i have notice regrowth in about 35% of the affected areas.

So far, so good. I am expecting more results to be honest. I will try to post pics.

How did you get your insurance Co to approve it? Mine denied it:(

Hi Kris,

I actually didn't do anything. Dr's office did everything and got them to send it to me.

If you applied by yourself, try to get it with your doctor.
