Hey everyone, So I was diagnosed AA on Nov, 2015. i have seen many doctors in the city and none of them have actually helped me. After a long wait, I am being treated by Dr. Brett King from Yale University. On July 8th, i had my first appointment. He wanted me to start taking Xeljanz but i refused to the idea of being exposed to Cancer and other side effects. So he gave me 3 pulses of prednisone of 350 mg that i took 1 day only and it would be good for the whole month.

At the beginning of the treatment it stopped a little not completely and i experienced horrible mood changes. first day of the doses felt very active with anxiety and the following days i would feel so depress and like not wanting to live anymore. I have notice that is this medication since i have never felt this way before. However on the first month i saw some sort of improvement but on the second and 3rd month almost nothing and as side effects besides the mood and depression i felt back pain on my kidneys.

unfortunately, i think i am relapsing right now since i am experiencing hair loss and i am seeing new patches. I have my follow up appointment with Dr. King. on Sep 26th but i already know he will want to try the Xeljanz. Has anyone experienced serious side effects from this med???

I will keep you guys updated on this and if i start taking this medication.

As a father to a teenage daughter who just experienced what you are going through..I can only say that Xeljanz was a miracle drug. My daughter had zero hair on her head/eye brows...and within 2 months her eye brows filled in completely. Her hair is now fully regrown. With normal blood tests..you can monitor your system while on Xeljanz. Dr. King is releasing another round of research reports this month while should help. In short, Xeljanz works but you need to make up your own mind in terms of using this medication. Everything has it's risks. The good news is that your seeing one of the best Doctor's in the country. I'm happy to share any additional information if you want to email me. Good luck on your journey.

As I am reading these blogs my heart goes out to everyone.  I myself suffered from alopecia as a young adult.  My son that is now 25 has suffered since he was in junior high.  I know the stigma and the feelings that are associated with this disease.  My son and I both took steroid injections in the scalp.  A year ago I stumbled on a product called Monat.  I can't tell you how it's changed our lives.  It's simply a shampoo and conditioner that is infused with essential oils.  My son has not had an injection since last October and all his hair is back.  Please check this out.  I became a distributor when I saw the possibilities for my son.  You can contact me via email jbenda2014@outlook.com.   My website is janabenda.mymonat.com.   Please take a look. It is def worth it.
