Joined the gym here in Spain, went swimming this morning, after 2 lengths got called over by the lifeguard. He said "This might sound absurd but you need to wear a swimming cap. It's the rules of the pool." Erm...what? What would be the reasoning of this rule? I would hazard a guess at the fact that hair gets trapped in drains and they want to avoid that. So why would I need to wear one? I looked at him a bit perplexed and he said "I've got one here you can borrow." So I sighed and said "OK" and put it on. How ridiculous. Now I have to spend money on a swimming cap before I next go!! What's the point?!

Yeah swimming bald! I like it, I'm streamline already, I don't need a swimming cap!!

This should be solved right away, as "I HOPE THIS WASN'T THE MANAGER"
Talk to someone higher up.
I know this is a set the rule for everyone, thus should be respected as such.
However, this is in place for the drain system...not hygiene.
Unless they can present a better excuse!
If that were the case everyone would be asked to shower, as they do in the Netherlands.
"AKA HOLLAND"
From what I remember years ago, this was normal practice, to shower (Bathe) before entering the pool.
The head is far cleaner than some peoples private personal habits.
Besides...I personally am highly allergic to synthetics, acrylics, and latex rubber.
What then must we do in this case?
I know they make bald men also put on caps.
Imagine wearing your prosthetic, silicone, freedom, vacuum wig to the pool, then having to put a cap on top of that!
Years ago, I went to a Pool while I had Alopecia Totalis, at that time they told me to wear a cap which was compulsory for everyone.
These caps were given out, if you didn't bring your own cap.
Well, to me this is unhygienic on every level, as there could be staph spores, fungus spores, which are highly contagious.
Also, what about eye lashes, eye brows, pubic, chest and body hair, which can also be considered, if we wish to be critical.
Does this not have an effect, which can also be considered a problem?
So you need to write a letter, if you have not already.
Get it signed by the city commissioner or someone in charge.
If you don't want to do that right away, first write the letter, directing it to the board of Directors, as "Lois pointed out".
I'm considering that this is one way to go for now.
You should not be made an "example out of stupidity either"
"WHAT AN ABSURD JOKE AND INSULT TO OFFER YOU A CAP"
"SUCH IS ILLOGICAL AND UNREASONABLE THINKING".
I would have walked out saying...YOU PUT IT ON...YOU NEED IT!
That's if the person had hair...or even no hair.
They say "IF THE SHOE FITS...WEAR IT"
By know you know how analytical I can be!!!

Right up my alley!
Thought provoking, and as I mentioned...stimulating!
I always say, that to follow, is the mistake man makes.
We'll, since I'm so analytical, I guess there are some exceptions to the rule.
I like the way you put it.

Thanks for your comments...really interesting viewpoints! Agree with you all. So I've bought myself a very fetching green silicone hat, and can smile at the fact that putting it on and taking it off doesn't pull on my hair or mess it up like everyone else! Still miss swimming bald but in the summer I can always swim in the sea! Don't think anyone there will tell me what to wear! x

Good advice, Daniel! :-)

Hayley - I'm late to this thread - I was just "searching" for information on swimmer's caps and came across your posts. How bizarre yet not surprising. I"m glad you've kept a sense a humour about the situation.
