can anyone help as i get synthetic wigs from the nhs, i get 2 for 6months as they only last about 3, but i have only had them since january and they have hair comin out thro the top like ive cut lots of strands, they are suppose to look realistic and it makes me feel self consious, i was gonna go to a diff hairdressers that do wigs and ask as the hairdressers i go to say its something called permateze, dont know wat that is and if its meant to happen, they r both startin to look this way and i have till june before i get my new 1's, thanks for any suggestions, :)

Hey Lynne....I only get 2 wigs per year on the NHS...I now have 3 though. I bought one, and got the other 2 from NHS. I got my first wig in January and it's still ok. The ones I get from the NHS are about £250-300 each. I go to a specialist wig shop and they give me a spray and shampoo and conditioner to help maintain my wigs and they are all still in good condition. Do you use anything like that on yours? if not, thats maybe the reason they aren't lasting very long?

hey i just get mine from the nhs but im tempted to get my own one to, i was told i could just use normal shampoo on them then let them steep in fabric softener for an hr or 2, does that sound stupid am i gettin told to do it wrong, if the spray shampoo n condtioner for wigs is better then i would buy them, x

I def wouldn't use normal shampoo or fabric conditioner on mine..that's not good for them. You need a special shampoo...I also use a spray especially for wigs every day, to keep the colour and condition good. It lasts about 2 months and only costs £7

I go to an actual wig shop.... they supply the NHS with wigs too and thats how I got on the NHS list, but I go directly to the shop so I can get the wigs from there. They also have the special spray, shampoo, conditioner and even hairspray and they also sell eyelashes, scarves etc...it's a brilliant place and its been my lifesaver with this alopecia... x

Hey Lynne,
Just read this. I have the wig shampoos and sprays but don't think they smell very nice. My friend who has been wearing wigs for quite a while (she's got universalis) recommends using baby shampoo which I've done. It smells much nicer and didn't seem to be to the detriment of the wig. She keeps some of hers in great condition by using a Lee Stafford serum. She's going to let me know which one it is so I can try it as even her wig supplier was amazed by how good she was managing to keep them even though she wears them nearly every day. Will keep you posted and let you know when I find out the actual product.

The baby shampoo sounds like a great idea...I might try that, although the wig shampoos I use dont have any smell...
