Has anyone seen the movie Grey Garden's starring Drew Barrymore? She portrays a character that deals with alopecia. The movie is quite interesting it is based of a true story of Jackie Kennedy's relatives. I think it is the first movie I've seen that shows a character that has alopecia. It was touching to see it portrayed on screen because Drew really captures what it is like to lose your hair; and how she learns to deal and doesn't lose her spirit. Just wanted to let you guys know, don't know if it was already bought up! happy holidays, Francie

Oh interesting.. I just saw (the documentary) Grey Gardens on netflix last night on instant.. and I guess there is a new movie by the same name that's based off of the story in the docu - which has Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange.

I'll have to check them out.

Yeah the movie is based off a documentary made in the 70's. The newer one explores the characters more looking to into their lifes before and after the documentary. The one with Drew & Jessica came out this year, Drew won an emmy or a golden globe (not sure which one) for her acting in it.

I thing about that is she lost all of her hair/eye brows/lashes eventually and it stayed out until she died. I was reading an interview about the real life little edie; and this is all I could find on her hair loss. Its a clip from an interview on greygardensonline.com

GG: I get a lot of emails from people that are interested in knowing why or how Little Edie lost her hair. I assume that she had a condition called Alopecia, which caused her hair to fall out. Do you happen to know the cause? And when did it start? Did Little Edie ever talk about it?

LW: I don’t believe it was a disease. And if you want to know more about Little Edie’s hair, I suggest you read John Davis’s book where he claims she set her hair on fire. Its something we never talked about. Edie always had a scarf on. She started off with beautiful blond hair. Some people have said that John Davis wasn’t correct. I don’t like the word “disease.” So, I would rather the cause be more dramatic that that. I certainly would never have asked Edie what happened to her hair. And I didn’t. It was just ignored, as it should be.
