Alright, firstly i must say that I'm really excited to be here. Because i want to share my story (on-going) with you..and i really REALLYYYY REALLYYYYY HOPE it might help you..somehow. Because i've been through HELL for the past 2 years.. it was worst last year. I've cried so much..and i practically spent every single day last year and half of this year, trying to figure out what caused my hair loss.. almost every minute, all i'd be thinking about..is my hair..and hair alone. even if i got distracted for awhile, the next minute i will be back to thinking about my hair.

i had fairly fine hair since young..but i had enough volume..it was my natural hair. then when i went into secondary school.. i cut my hair.. and it became curly.. so i rebonded it (at the age of 14). which was a mistake. BIG MISTAKE. it followed on with 4-5 times of relaxing and rebonding.. and little did i know about the damages it was doing to my scalp. i lost hair a few strands when i was about 17..but i thought it was normal. still it was thick.

So u know how girls age, weight becomes a problem. I was fat since young. When i lost weight "unknowingly"..people noticed. I liked the fact that ppl noticed it! So i started losing more weight.. Oh yeah, i had a boyfriend since 13 till the age of 18+..who was a jerk. So he was giving me a lot of problems which stressed me out all the time too. I finally broke up with him.. and got to know a new guy. All these time i had straight hair which had enough volume and i was slim too. Then i ended up gaining weight.. this new guy has 3 sisters who are models. (I know..) So one of em would comment on my weight and all..and people around me too. So i went on stupid diets.. and i started exercising crazily.. and this went on and off..for one whole year, till last august, i brought my bf out to a hotel buffet and to some really amazing places.. and during the buffet he commented 'why do i look plum..' my face. i was broken inside. ): and the whole time.. all i could think about..was my fats. i had a secret bbq organized the following week, so i HAD to lose weight somehow. so for the next one week.. i exercised 2-3 hrs everyday and i reduced my calorie intake drastically. i lost almost 3-4kg within a week. HE NOTICED IT! i was so happy. and then..i realized my hair was shedding more and more... till i started balding..it was terrible. it never ended. even till today. and he would make funny comments like.. 'your hair's dropping everywhere.. you're balding".. i mean its okay for him, but i don't blame him for not understanding how i felt. cause he was genetically blessed with a full head of hair. everyone in his family have thick hair.. even the old aged dad. so yeah.. i came to australia to take my degree. and all i did everyday after school was to rush home..and find about ways to stop hair loss.. it could go on for hours and hours!!!.. i started eating ALOT and exercising thinking that it might help. it made me upset too cause i was gaining weight..and then the exercise made my period stop. i've missed my period for 5months straight and this has NEVER happened.. only last august when i went on that stupid 1week crazy diet..i missed it for 3mths. okay.. so i realized that the food wasn't the problem.. i really didn't know what to do. oh yea, i was taking vitamins before too.. from GNC..HAIR SKIN NAILS..but it didn't help much. So now that I've missed my period.. i was telling myself.. my hair loss is never gonna end.. i should just eat normally and exercise normally.. i saw a doctor and she said my estradiol was low.. so it could be due to the exercising hence missed period. i was thinking it might be the cause of my hairless too.. i was still finding ways to help my hair.. like using oils and all.

OK HERE IT COMES:
my hair is FINALLY GROWING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea what i did..but i think its the combination of everything. Yes its still dropping, but as i type.. i can smile and say that..something is finally working. I have baby hairs growing on my scalp.. and those parts whereby my scalp could be seen before.. are no longer that obvious now. Here's a list of everything i've tried so far:

- Coconut oil -> Didn't help much..more hair came out
- Shikakai powder and Amla powder -> I used it for 3 months because i was afraid SLS was causing my hair loss.. -> it just left a lot of dirt on my scalp.. i was afraid to wash it out properly due to my hair loss..
- GNC HAIR SKIN NAILS VITAMIN & Biotin Vitamin -> Didn't work much, was taking it for 3-4 months last year
- Eating properly.. a lot of protein -> Been doing it for the past 1 month.. i got sick of it because i was thinking if i don't eat even when i'm not hungry, i will lose hair.. and it just made me gain weight..and i had to exercise everyday to keep the weight off..and i got so drained out
-I bought jojoba oil, rosemary oil, lavender, tea tree oil. -> i had dandruff too and those wierd sebum plugs? one or two. i realized that with those, my hair dropped out more. so i have been applying this for like once every day..or when i shampoo my hair.
- I'm using a protein shampoo now.. Sukin organics shampoo.. it was VERY drying because i guess i used a lot on my scalp.. but after oiling my hair with olive oil or jojoba oil..and i washed my hair with just a dollop of shampoo.. it makes my hair APPEAR thicker. it has no SLS in it. i am not saying its good.. but I'm just afraid of SLS.

-MOST IMPORTANTLY: i feel that this is what has been helping me.. i started taking Nature's Own.. Balance Plus Glow Multivitamin FOR HEALTHY HAIR, NAILS & SKIN..For a month. 1tablet everyday. And i started back biotin..NATURE'S OWN 300mc biotin, i took 5 tablets each time. i split the dose and increased the dosage. 1.5 in the morning and 1.5 in the afternoon. and the multivitamin had 2.5 in it..so i guess..5.5?... I've been taking this for about 2 months? Also i must add i stopped exercising too much and I ate properly.
The first thing i noticed was that my nails were growing fast.. i've always had slow growing nails.. and they were strong. then i realized the hair on my front line was growing too.. like short hairs.. n i just happened to check the back of my head.. the parting was kinda filled up. I WAS SHOCKED!!!! So i strongly believe that its the biotin plus the vitamin which has helped me. Sorry for splurging my super long story.. i just had to let u know as much as possible. I've now increased my dosage to 5000mcg of biotin in the morning.. 2500mcg from he multivitamin plus another 5000mcg of biotin. I ordered the NOW brand, from iherb.com. I'm just going to try this for a week, and i will bring back down my dose to 5000mcg plus the 2500mcg from the multivitamin. Side effects: i drink ALOT of water, so i didn't break out. when i took the biotin from GNC, i started to get cysts and boils in my EAR.. so i stopped. so i think my body is more adaptable to NOW brand and nature's own.But my body was itching like crazy. I thought it was because of some dust mite or something.. but i think its because hair's growing everywhere? there's new hair growing on my arms and all.

SO PLEASE JUST TRY THE BIOTIN ..if ur willing to. It might take a long time to see results..but its worth it. and please don't try to lose weight like how i did..and eat normally and be stress free..(somehow i feel that maybe my stomach had some problems in absorbing nutrients.. and thats how biotin might have worked for me. i'm not sure. but i hope my hair doesn't drop out if i stop it. My mum side has patterned baldness.. but my mum had THICK HAIR during my age. Only after the age of 30..she started losing hair..after she gave birth)

much love <3

Hello,
Glad to hear that you are some improvement! I was also deficient in biotin, which lists alopecia as a symptom of deficiency. It's also worth looking into vit d3, b complex, and C with MSM - good for hair growth.

I have succeeded in having a full regrowth after drastically changing my diet. I had a blood test that indicated that i was sensitive to a number of foods that never occurred to me: coffee, wheat, watermelon, lemon, mushrooms, cane sugar etc. The test was through Genova Diagnotics - not sure if any other company's do it too. After eliminating these last year I have experienced a full regrowth and my hair is on its way back to the original thickness.

Good luck!

Oops, I was wrong. The food sensitivity test was done through Alletess - go to www.foodallergy.com if you're interested. Sorry!
