What is going to happen now?
hey I am maryaddyson I am 15 and have had alopecia since november 2010 when I was first diagnosed i have never heard of alopecia and thought i must be really sick cause my hair keeps falling out. Now that i am about to be a sophomore in highschool i just feel depressed because while all my friends are out dating and going to summer pool parties i am at home trying to keep my secret. I cant swim because then i would have to take off my wig and everyone would see but now a lot of my hair has come back but will it fall out again? I dont know a whole lot about alopecia and no boby i know has it.

I remember going to a senior lake outing in high school, and I wore a scarf but never went under the water. I still had fun, and was surprised when one of the cutest guys from school romped in the waves with me. Also, I wore sleep caps to overnights and wigs to school, dances, camp and trips sponsored by the church. Being a good artist allowed me to work on scenery, posters and programs for the school plays, so I got to attend all the cast parties and even be in one play. Clubs and organizations are great for scholarship applications...so get out there and do not let the high school years go to waste, socially, academically, artistically (Band? Glee? Dance? Orchestra? Art?), spiritually or professionally! Take a mom, aunt or cousin to a wig shop and mall make-up counter to get a free make-over, buy some neat clothes (consignments shops are cheaper), and invite trusted friends over for a movie and pizza night. You can do this.
