Note: This is a theoretic piece of writing. Meaning the feelings were once mine....But seems they are now someone elses.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Why?

Why is hair such a big part of society?

Isn't it just fur?

It feels silky, it feels nice to touch it right?

What about when someone loses their hair....

Is it funny to hurt them?

Is it right to ridicule them?

Or make assumptions?

That teenage girl you see looking whimsically at the books with a smile on her face. She has no hair and eyebrows.

You see her hug her mother who has hair. What is your first assumption?

Do you walk up and ask them if they have cancer?

Do you wait until the girl is alone before confronting her?

Do you mistake it for cancer?

Is it even any of your business?

Who are you to intrude on someone's life?

Why do you ask her?

That woman you see with a scarf around her head holding her daughter's hand as they cross the street...Do you ask her if she has luekemia?

That girl in the mall laughing with her family, you walked up to the mother and asked if her daughter had leukemia...You stopped them in the middle of the Mall...

What made it your business? Is it because of your religion? Or your curiosity?

It's none of your business.

It's not your right...

No matter the reason.

It's not.

Why?

Why do you ridicule us?

Why is it so important to blend in?

That person who used your precious base and didn't add hair and just changed the clothing to it. You ridiculed her and bullied her.

Only to be told it was a portrait a friend had done so to speak of her real face. You were looking at a condition...And yet you treated her like she was garbage.

It took her friends to get you to leave her alone.

She sits and cries as her supposed 'Best Friend Forever' berates her, tells her she's gay, that she's stupid, that she's ugly because of her condition.

A condition born of her blood....It's not cancer.

It's not cancer.

It's not melanoma.

It's not Leukemia.

It's not terminal.

It's an immune disorder.

It's not an STD.

It's not caused by Drugs.

It's not caused by anything we know of.

It's called Alopecia Areata.

It's called Alopecia Universallis.

Totalis.

It's caused by our immune systems...

It's not a disease.

It's not making us sick.

We're not sick.

We're not your pawns.

You who took the wig of her classmate and laughed and teased her about it in the lunchroom. You go and apologize to her.

You who took the student's hat and played a cruel game with her mocking her as she tries to hide her patches and refusing to apologize. Your absolutely pathetic.

You who wrote Alopecia as the butt of a joke on VEEP I hope you enjoyed it for a few minutes before the reality set in....

You who makes fun of it on a comic. You are pathetic.

You all are.

You who stood by your friend's side don't be shocked when she hugs you tight.

You who raised him to be a strong young man be proud that you held his hands and guided him to his strength.

You who met that girl online and didn't know what she looked like until a photo popped up on her DeviantART...You are great for not being effected or asking questions that would only cause pain.

The friends who roleplay with and talk to the girl with no hair she loves you guys for letting her feel like she can be herself.

To the people who hide behind wigs I don't understand why it seems like hair has to be acceptable.

It doesn't have to be.

Why?

Leave your answers to these questions if you can think some up...My name is Storm...

And I have Alopecia Areata.

And I face the dreaded cancer question a lot...And I have to wonder why does everyone assume it?

Why do they feel it's their right to ask? To intrude on your life?

Do they think they're so intelligent?

Because they aren't....

This is going to be posted on my DeviantART account too....

Wish me luck guys...I have a feeling some people on there who hate me are gonna love to use this against me...

Storm this is great. I have dealt with some of these situations if not similar ones. I once had someone yell at me because they thought I was mean because they assumed I had cancer. Your piece speaks volumes.
