Okay - you dragged it out of me! I felt so guilty about buying it when I got home after ordering a $3,000 wig (greedy little greedy!) that I went into guilty hiding mode.....and didn't tell hubby I'd bought it. I stashed it away, but tried it on while I was in the guilt mode. I honestly think it's a bit 'young' for Nanny! Anyway I came clean last night, so maybe a clear conscience might change my view of it! I certainly hope so. I can be a real twit at times......................... LOL

Hi Lori,
I couldn't help noticing your discussion about Debbie Fuller's visit to Ottawa. I too went to see her that night. I think I met Julia as she was coming and I was going. I'd love to know your impression and whether you've decided to take the plunge. I have shoulder length hair and am still covering as best I can. I'm really afraid of the whole shaving it off thing and finding out I made a mistake. Do you still have some of your own hair? Your hair looks great on your bio photo, by the way. I'm finding it really difficult to know when the right time is to take that next step.

I work full time too - and the next couple of weeks are going to be insanely busy, but I'd love to get together in early October one evening. It was so nice to meet you, and honestly - if I'd met you anywhere else, I would never in a million years have thought that was a wig! It looks great on you and I can see why you are a little worried that the Freedom wig wouldn't turn out that good!

I'd like that. How often do you come into town?

I did. BUT when I tried it on at home, I have serious second thoughts - so much so that I haven't even 'fessed up to hubby about it yet! LOL

Hi Lori,

Debbi Fuller is coming on September 15th to hold an information evening in Ottawa about the vacuum wigs from New Zealand. I plan to be there, and it would be wonderful to meet you! I've had Alopecia for over ten years now - sometimes AA, sometimes AT, and often AU. It did grow back a couple of times - once dark, and once as white as snow, but it all fell out again. Currently I have no hair at all, except for scanty eyebrows and eyelashes. I've been buying wigs off the internet but I'd love to get a really good one, since synthetic ones are fine until a) it rains, b) it's windy or c) it's hot like it was here last week!

Anyway, just in case you are interested, let me know. It's being held at the Embassy Suites hotel downtown in the evening of Sept 15th.

Nice to get to know you,

Julia :)

LOL! No you appear like you actually have a life (especially with your cutie pie daughter)... unlike me ;o) who has way too much time on her hands sometimes... I am still baking. Plotting and planning... I have my mum's 65th coming up in March and am thinking of attempting rather large cake for her. xx

Hi Lori

How are things with you? I hope you and your family are well.

The wig is a full lace wig which means it is bonded (with adhesive tape) all around the edge and can be left on for a while... I leave it for about 6 days before removing and washing my scraggles (bio-hair) and sorting the wig out. I have worn it quite a bit, but am taking a break for a few days. I like myself without my wig and I am at a stage where I just do random things like wear it, not wear it and wear scarf, don't wear anything... I have no routine... I can't decide if I like it enough for it to become a permanent fixture that I make more effort to wear consistently!

xx

On a completely unrelated to hairloss note, have you seen this site... I was thinking about your cakes and I just remembered it http://www.realbakingwithrose.com/ she does all sorts of baking/writes cookery books and stuff... but also features cakes and cake decorating. I find it very interesting to read.

I love your cakes... you are VERY talented and are now inspiring me to have a go. Not that I should be eating cakes mind you.

Regarding the wigs, yes it is hard to find one that is not BIG. The more hair I have lost, the thinner the hair I have left has become (the actual strands) so any wig I put on looks quite strange I find. I don't actually feel I look like myself. Have you thought about a custom wig that is made to fit you and has less hair density? That might be what you are looking for and you can get custom colours (highlights and lowlights) added in.

I was a hairdresser for a couple of years before I started getting alopecia. Yea, it's kinda weird being a bald hairdresser. Ironic, eh?
