My name is Angie and I'm 22 years old. I have been diagnosed with Alopecia Areata in February of 2018. I didn't really care to go to a dermatologist because I believed the hair loss was from dying my hair so frequently during my teens. I chose to see a dermatologist when I realized how much hair I was losing. I would look back at pictures from 2015-2016 and realized how much of a difference my hair was in thickness and texture. The crazy thing is, I haven't heard of much people with AA to have elastic, weak hair and a very itchy scalp...which is do. My hair is so elastic that it snaps by barely tugging. I have been shedding almost 30 strands of hair in the shower and probably way more throughout the day. I'm so scared...this may sound dumb but when I was asked what my biggest fear was when I was a kid, it was losing my parents and losing my hair. Everyone in my life knew that and this nightmare is coming true and I don't know how to deal with it. I had steroid injections on one patch but only one treatment and I gave up after getting a $700 bill from my clinic...I am trying to believe that if all these women and men can get through AA, AT, and AU then I can do it to but honestly it is so terrifying for me. I hope this website can help me cope and come together with all the strong women and men who deal with this as well.
