- Hi there. My name is Georgia, I am a 51-year-old divorcee. As a child I had so much hair they used thinning shears every month to control the mane. In my early 20's I was told that I had polycystic ovarian disease and the only way to slow/stop the hair loss was to go to term with a pregnancy. Never could get pregnant. By 24 I cut my hair short. Now, the little bit of hair that I do have is so thin I don't even know why I bother to style it.
I think that female alopecia is seen like a hysterectomy or mastectomy by many, many people... that somehow we are diminished as females. I just can't seem to shake the stereotype.

I'd like to thank everyone on this site for their openness and thoughts.
Have been doing some digging... has anyone here had any success with alternative therapies? Seems like there may be a link, for women, between PCOS, liver dysfunction, and alopecia. Has anyone out here had success with taurine/zinc/ B Complex or a product line called ScalpMed? Have used Rogaine several times with only minor success. Just wondering if anyone has utilized anything else that had any improvement of… Continue
