What happened?

I can’t believe this. I acquired Alopecia areata total is 11 years ago. I did start getting Getting tufts 5 or 6 years ago which I regularly shave. I shaved about 6 weeks ago and what has grown now is REAL HAIR. Has this happened to others?See More

About Me:
I am 51 y.o. In july of 2009 my hair started falling out. By Sept. I was completely bald. I am an RN, but now have depression and anxiety.

I am 60 years old now. It’s been 11 years now and over the years I have tried everything including involvement with clinical trials, steroids, even putting fresh cow manure on my head👨🏻‍🦲🤣. Everything has been without result. I certainly gave up along time ago concerning hair regrowth. I don’t know how it happened but 1 month ago I noticed a change in my “tufts”. I shaved my head as I normally do when my tufts become unruly. What has grown back is REAL HAIR. I’m a little scared. What is next? Am I going to lose it again? IDK but for now I’m very excited.

Thank you for the friend request. We have quite a bit in common - I'm in my 50's, and lost all my hair pretty suddenly in 2008. Hang in there and just know that it does get better. I had a lot of difficulty and was very depressed for most of the first year after I lost my hair, but today I'm in a much better state! Take care, Mary
