- My job is makeup & hair artist so being in the "beauty biz" is a challenge because I've had AA for the past 8 years. At certain times of my life I've lost over 50% of my hair and have spent thousands of dollars on everything from specialists (who don't except insurance!) to expensive hairpieces and extensions to buying special alopecia masking products like Couvre and Toppik. I've even attended support groups. My hair has grown back and I have had smaller bouts of AA until about 3 mos ago I've lost over 50% again! This time is probably the worst! I am fighting this with better nutrition and yoga but it's a slow and patient progress.
