I think my child has alopecia, She is 9 months old and is losing her hair in a peculiar pattern at the nape of her neck upwards and it is falling out in clumps leaving behind completely smooth healthy skin. I am feeling completely devastated at present, because she has such beautiful hair and she's a stunning little girl. I can't stop crying, mainly because I don't know why and i'm worried something might be seriously worng.

Hello and welcome, Vikki,
Alopecia can be really hard. I'm so sorry.
You might want to read my book, because it explains a lot about the condition, and it's written for women (and girls). It's funny and interesting, too.
Go to my page and check it out -- it's called "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!"
Take care and let me know if there's anything else I can do.

Vikki, I was in the same place you were in. It is interesting and comforting that many of our experiences on this site are similar. My daughter was 15 mo old, and it was devastating, though we are getting better, and she has had much regrowth! I think it is a blessing to have years to come to terms w/ this ourselves before they have the realization. Take care, Angie
