The View upset quite a few members of Alopecia World this week. After announcing that the newly crowned Miss Delaware Kayla Martell has alopecia areata, the show's hosts veered into a discussion about whether black or white women look better bald! After viewing this controversial clip, please share your thoughts. If you would like to send feedback directly to the View, go here.

Let's just say I watch the View mainly to be entertained and not informed!

A bunch of people saying some mindless things about something which they obviously don't know anything about. I can understand that some are offended by these stupid comments but this shouldn't be taken seriously or even personally. This dumb discussion about wether black or white women look better bald is just silly and don't deserve any attention. These people disqualify themselves enough with their statements.

Strangely I was not offended because this show has won national acclaim for this style of format. I expect this discourse-- women sitting around dishing mostly on subjects that they have limited or no knowledge about. Some things said at that table are either inappropriate or contentious and to be fair, occasionally funny. However, when I'm home, I don't watch The View, I watch courtroom shows. The heated political debates between Elisabeth and Whoopi grate my nerves.

thanks for reposting. i personally, for myself, do not care what they say. but i had been a naaf support person and i know that comments like these, by "bright" women, will hurt tremendously. i was offended mostly for this reason. these women are supposed to be FOR women. they may all have diff. views, like us, but they shouldnt be hurtful. making jokes of bald or balding women (or men) have been around for a long time. doesnt mean they shouldnt stop. should i email whoopi and tell her that some black women look ok without eyebrows, but that she needs to put some on??? too easy, too hurtful - wish they had the same considerations for ALL those that might be a lil different.

The show is stupid, but I wasn't offended. They WERE right in pointing out how fake breasts are OK, but fake hair is not as widely accepted. I think hair extensions are helping it to be more accepted, but we're not quite there yet....
I agree that they missed a valuable opportunity to educate about the different types of alopecia. But at least they were talking about it! It's a start :)...... I hope they invite her to be on the show. I give her due credit for dealing with the hosts if she does -that would be torture educating that crew!

Certainly this was a missed opportunity for a more informed piece about alopecia; however, I was not offended by the direction they took. These people are paid to entertain, not to educate. Joy Bahar is a comedian and when she saw a chance to veer into a joke she took it. I actually thought the portion on black vs white women with bald heads made an interesting point. I don't think that many people would look at a bald black woman and think "chemo!" but I'm pretty sure that's the reaction to most bald white women.

Who cares what these dinosaurs have to say? I've watched The View once (still trying to get over the mental scars), and they offer nothing of substance or intrigue, just fluff and material to generate controversy.

Gosh, it didn't bother me at all!

I just watched the video of The View. I must say, my first reaction was to feel hurt. I felt that they were going to speak more about how courageous it was of Kayla to come on national TV and take her wig off for all to see. I felt that I wish they could experience what we have - to watch your hair fall out and having no control over it. I do believe in the old saying "Put the shoe on the other foot"! I wonder if any of them experienced what we have, would they be so quick to talk about "cone heads"! After reading what you have all written, it helped me to realize that they are looking for a laugh and that I shouldn't take it too seriously.
