When do I know it's time to give up?

Posted on November 16, 2010 at 7:37pm 2 Comments

For the pas 2 years I have been getting the very painful kenalog steroid injections so that y hair can grow back. I have not lost all my hair just yet and I have been told by my doctor and his staff that I am one of the many lucky people who have this disease that still have this amount of hair. I have tried wearing wigs, at home treatments, taking vitamins, cutting my hair shorter to give it more volume and so on..... At time I wish that all my hair will finally fall out so I can finally… Continue

Thanks for the Friend request! You're not alone on this journey, and you will find strength and confidence in yourself that you never knew you had. Have you visited the Sisterhood of Women Who Shaved Their Heads Group? There are lots of incredible ladies there. All the best,
Mary

Sorry I haven't got back to you. Have been away for a few days and had no computer.
So sorry to hear that you are stressed. I know that stressing about it definately makes the hair loss worse. My son shaved his head when he got to the stage that their wasn't much hair left. He felt that he was going to lose it anyway. People shave their heads to take a measure of control of the situation.
Have you thought about getting a wig. Alot of people wear wigs to help them feel more confident in themselves.
Reading discussions and blogs on this site gives you an insite into how other people are coping with AA. You can then enter into discussion with these people. I know that this has helped me a great deal.
I know with my sons situation I hope that he will get to the point where it just doesn't matter anymore. Because underneath you are still the same person and the people that matter to you will still see you for who you are. People that don't look past your looks are not worth knowing are they?
Love yourself for who you are. You can still spend time on your looks with makeup, hats or scarves, bandanas and wigs. Some AA sufferers have a few wigs and choose what they want to wear each day. We have tried to encourage our son to turn it into a fashion statement. He has an earing in one ear. He wants to get a brow piercing - though he has no eyebrows and a nose piercing. Some people find very different head wear to make them feel special. But don't forget that you are special just the way you are.
I don't know if this helps any. Please let me know your thoughts.
Take care
Susan
