Hello Sherry, My name is Maria and i have a 6yr old daughter with AU also she lost all her hair when she was just 3yrs. It has been a long journey for us. Honestly we dont treat her AU, I dont see any sense in treating it mainly because there is no cure for AU. I dont like most side effects of anything, so i will probley just wait until she is a lil older and she can make some decisions on her own, Savanna has 3 wigs but dont wear them in public, she likes them for dressing up and playing mostly. We are waiting on the real hair wigs from locks of love and I am hoping she will be willing to wear that one in public....but that is her own decision. I wish you and your daughter the best of luck...she is a beautiful lil girl, she actually reminds me of my Savanna. Hope to talk some more. Maria
Hi Sherry, I am going on vacation next week and when I get back I am planning to get Sam a new wig through the Kids Hair Club (they part of hair club for men). I heard great things about their hair pieces and the service. At least at the location I am going to take Sam too..She is looking forward to getting her long locks back and nothing different.
We are trying squaric acid immunotherapy. So far, Sam is going on week 10 and we have not see any visible results. It can take about 3 months before we see any results. But, the doctors want the solution applied in small areas and only one spot at a time so it could take longer to see results if any. It is really depressing and frankly I am quite down these days. I know I have push forward and give it a chance. It is usually around now that I give up and start something else. but this seems like my last alternative. We are going to Fl next week so I am hoping the heat may trigger some growth. It is harder for me to watch as she has no lashes and brows now. It did not seem as bad when she had facial hair.
Sam is in K and we have had no issues and my daughter is a unquie child in that she has a great spirit and positive attitude in everything she does and she does not let people bother her. I hope she will always be this strong. Just the other day she said I like wigs so I don't need my hair..I don't know many 6 yr old girls with that attitude and it was the attitude she had from the start of this..Well I am off for my 15 more mins of quiet before the bus arrives...I would love to chat one night..Cindy
Hi Sherry..Glad your daughter loves her wig..What kind of human hair wig did you get? I have been very lucky that Samantha has a great attitude about her Alopecia. Her teacher was just telling me today and that Sam is one of the most mature Kindergartener's she ever taught..I am still adjusting to this and it has been real hard on me. For Sam and my huband it is a what will be, will be attitude. She is trying a treatment now and has made no complaints about it. Will your daughter be in K next year? Cindy
