The West Texas Tortoise & Hair 5K & 1.5 Mile Run/Walk is a fund raising event in which 100% of the proceeds will go towards finding a treatment for Alopecia Areata. This is a poorly understood disease which affects over 5 million Americans. It occurs in both sexes and all races but children are most commonly affected. Currently, there is no cure.

The 5K Run/Walk will be held along the Historical Fort Stockton Tour beginning at the Fort Stockton Visitors Center, detour through Rooney Park, continue around the Historical Fort Stockton and finish at the Comanche Springs Swimming Pool. Individual awards will be awarded to the first male and female racers in their age group in this run/walk.

Participants of the 1.5 Mile Run/Walk will not be eligible for individual awards but will still be eligible for team prizes (excluding fastest team). This run/walk will begin at the Fort Stockton Visitors Center as well, continue along the Historical Tour, detour through Rooney Park, and finish at the Comanche Springs Swimming Pool. For younger children, 5 and under, bikes are welcome.
