My daughter's doctor recently suggested Anthralin as a next step when her skin thickens. I know that this is supposed to purposely cause an allergic reaction, but I recently was told about Squamic Acid Therapy (or SADBE I think is the abbreviation) as well. To me, these seem really similar. Does anyone know the difference? Has anyone used these kinds of treatment? Did anyone get results that stuck? Did anyone use this on a child? Thanks.

I use anthralin. Really read the guidance on the packaging! It did stain clothing and pillowcases and if I washed those items with others, they also were stained. Also stained my head and was very itchy. The dermatologist said to keep it on all night but the labeling on the packaging says to use for 30 min as a test first and slowly increase. When I use it for a long time, I can't use it for a week or two because of the irritations to my scalp. The derm did have a copy of a study showing statistical increase in growth in folks who use this in combination with Rogaine. I'm seeing regrowth except for the sides of my head near my ears. But results for all treatments for alopecia aerata seem to differ for everyone. Hope this info helps you.
