Hiya,

So  I havent really been active or using this board but browsed a fair bit when I was going through the worst of my own alopecia battles.

I personally had a very quick onset of Aloecipa mainly brought on from the stress of my Dad dying quite suddenly in April 2014. My alopecia started roughly July 2014 and by January 2015 I had lost roughly 60% of my hair. I was lucky to get a referral to the hospital and began steroid injections April 2015, which have been an overwhelming success.

The pictures I'm posing as from April 2015 - August 2015 to give you an idea of the regrowth. Just wanted to stay stay strong for anyone who is still in the midst of the worst of it. This whole experience very much brought me to the absolute extremes of the stress which I could deal with, and very nearly breached my capacity for coping. I promised myself that once I had something positive to share that i'd come back and hopefully show some people that it is possible to have a good recovery, even with a very large impacted area.

Hope that helps! And best of luck to all the rest of you.

What is the frequency of your injections?

Are you continuing with the injections?

Hi Jeffrey,

I have been getting injections every 8-12 weeks since April. At each session i have had around 20 sessions.

Still continuing and due more in the next month as I still have a few areas which haven't been treated yet, but by in large I have growth in the majority of my head. I have one spot on the top of my areas, each of my temples, and three small spots on the back of my head that haven't been treated yet.

Keep us posted!

Sorry I meant at each session i have had around 20 injections. Typing mistake by me!

That is great improvement ! Will you have to be on these for a while before you can stop ?

Wow this is really some great improvment. Are steroid injections some experimental method to battle Aloecipa of this type and are you just taking them to grow your hair back? I have never heard about such a treatment so I am quite curious about it.

I'm dont think it's particularly experimental - from what I've read (you know how you get alopecia and become an instant expert through all the research) it's generally the most common form of treatment after you have tried the steroid creme. I think it's success varies. The steriod creme had no effect on me.

I'm not sure which type I'm getting but yep, it's purely as a treatment for my hair loss. The doctor didnt elaborate on which type they were giving me. Funnily enough because my hair loss was very extensive she actually mention another treatment we could try if this failed which involved some sort of chemical treatment on the scalp to almost irritate it into growth. I dont have any more detail on that one because thankfully i didnt have to get it.

For me I believe my condition was extremely linked into stress. I was 27 at the time and my dad got diagnosed with cancer and had an instant prognosis of a few weeks left of life, and meanwhile i had just moved house and changed jobs. I wasnt entitled to sick leave or anything because i was new in the job so everything hit me at once and alopecia was my bodies reaction to the stress. The stress eased a bit along the way but it's if my body couldnt catch up and it took the injections to shock it back into action.

The other treatment your Dr was referring to sounds like Squaric Acid. Also a very common treatment.

Just FYI, Chances are after you stop taking the steroid injections (Kenalog) more than likely there is a good chance you could go back to square one with your hair loss. Nothing is predictable though.

Fingers x'd for you!!!

My hair loss started about 6 weeks ago and I have also visited my doctor about it becase it got worser and worser. He only recommended food supplements in combination with minoxidil. I have never heard about this treatment method. How long have you been suffereing from alopecia before you got the steriod treatment? Is is rather just the "last thing to do" after nothing else helped?

It is a blend of selenuim, zinc and biotin. My nails started to get a bit better after this but no great improvment with my hair so far...
