Hello everyone-
I'm not currently doing any topical treatments for my very diffuse AA (we are talking all over hair loss of about 50%). Anyhow, my scalp breaks out with acne badly- straight up normal zits! It's horribly embarrassing and downright painful. My Derm gave me clindamycin creame but basically shrugged it off. Anyone else experience this?
I'm currently using tea tree oil shampoo and normal conditioner. I wash my hair daily to get rid of oil (hair becomes oily within a day and I have so little hair it looks horrible if not washed). I try applying the cream but I feel like I get more on my hair than my scalp. Also they are not ingrown hairs/no hair coming out of pimple.

Thoughts? I want to shave my head but not till this is solved. I'm going crazy!

Thanks @Sar90. My dermatologist also gave me fluocinonide, and like you said the pimples will be gone when i applied it. But they come back....and yes, not for long term use. I'll try the vinegar wash and see how it goes.

try T.GEL SHAMPOO

I think you can try some natural remedies for acne and scalp. One of the best remedy that you can use for hair as well scalp is royal jelly. It is a type of honey which are produced by worker bees. It is best known for its skincare properties. It is rich in protein, vitamins, folic acid which is helpful in regeneration of hair. It can be consumed as an supplement or directly applied to the scalp. To know more you can visit here.

Hi,

I experienced it before. After several steroid injection, my scalp breaks out with ance. Try to use natural herbal shampoo and stop all the treatments temporarily.

I had gone through plenty of treatments to cure my alopecia totalis problem. None of the treatments work. My friends introduced the natural products based on nutritional immunology.

Check out this website. This is how I recovered from 12 years of Alopecia. Read on the products for Rapsody & E-munity & Rosytime, SoyGreen.

These products will help us repair our immune system. Hope it works for you.  All the best!

I have experienced that too. Most zits appear at the base of my scalp, while some come up on the top. It feels really weird to have this happen. I am constantly pulling on the bottom of my wig so I assume that the ones that come up at the base are due to my hands on it constantly. I am now very careful to try not to do this and it has lessened. I have used an OTC acne med (benzoyl peroxide) that works really great if you put them on the spot. You might try it.

Hi! No one hast stated what I believe you are suffering from - FOLLICULITUS. I have this in addition to my Alopecia Areata. I was actually diagnosed with it first and was able to grow all my hair back before getting Alopecia. I use the clindamycin twice a day, wash my hair everyday, and change towels after each shower. I will probably battle it forever. But talk to your derm about that. Hopefully they can give you better tips about how to treat it. BEST WISHES!

I suffer from bad scalp acne, too. I have AU and have zero hair on my head, not even fuzzies, but I do wear wigs. The one I've been currently wearing is a Jon Renau wig, open wefted back, um, it is soft that is doesn't itch my head like others have. I do try and keep the inside clean because when it gets too sweaty I tend to break out. I find break out on the edge areas of where my wig lines my head, If that makes sense. Even when I do wash it, it seems my scalp still breaks out and I have very oily skin, too. I do wash my head and face every night with antibacterial soap and during the day, I've been using a bit of my acne face wash on my scalp in the broken out areas and still don't seem to see any difference. I'm trying to find home remedies that can help with my scalp acne because I don't like going out in public without my hair on because of how bad my snap gets. :( any recommendations on home remedies? (PS I hate going to my doctor about these things because they don't quite seem to understand how my Alecia affects me)

Some people use CBD oil to treat psoriasis, maybe you can try it for your issue? You can buy in particular places. Here is big review on this topic, you can look through. https://www.payspi.org/hemp-oil-for-psoriasis/
