hi,

well i had alopecia for a while since around dec 07. it got worse progressively and at its worst i lost most hair on my head besides 2 individual eyelashes, most of the hair on my body besides a few hairs on my hands, some under the armpits and feet lol.

However, i was put on some steroids lately (which have now been stopped) and i've noticed some good regrowth but it seems quite varied at the moment.. some of my eyebrow hairs have sprouted, i've got 95% of all eyelashes back, some beard, and some hair on my head in places, also some more body hair eg. chest.

the thing is... how is regrowth meant to occur?? for me its coming back as slow as it went away... is that good? i've noticed more hairs on my arms, my legs are getting a few more hairs daily as well as other places... but it seems i may have lost a few more hairs on my head :( :( :(

has anyone else experienced this? and had full regrowth?

thanks

Hi Nick,
I was on steriods wen I was 17 & took it for 3 yrs!!! The reason was wen i took steriods I got all my hair bak, on my head (much thicker), some on the body, I got my full eyebrows bak & 95% eyelashes. But, as soon as i used to leave them all my hair used to fall again!!!! The Dr, tried his best to stablize the hair growth, but streiods can NEVER stablize hair growth for AU patients, esp. Besides, u get lot of side effects. I gained weight a LOT. Also, lot of ugly stretch marks all over my body, my joints became weak, so did my muscles & the BIG side effect was I got Cataract in my both eyes! So, I had no choice but to stop taking steriods.
Now i dont hav any hair all over my body at all! All the side effects r gone , Thanks to God!
I would advice u to plz stop taking steriods. Dont take them again. Go for either homeopathic or Ayurvedic treatment.
I recently stopped taking treatments coz the Dr, told me frankly that there is no chance of my hair growing bak. :(
Take care,
Priya
ahhh sorry that it didnt work out for you! well i have taken a course of steroids which seemed to have kicked my body into check hopefully.. i've already stopped taking them for about 2weeks now and my hair still seems to be growing touch wood. just wondered how long it would take.. but as long as its growing im happy
Hi Nick,

I personally had full regrowth after being alopecia totalis for about two years when I was ten after taken oral steroid + steroidal topical. Unfortunately, my full head of hair only lasted till about 17 when I progressively have alopecia universalis, until now of about 7 years with alopecia universalis I am still pretty much the same with some (a dozen of strands of hair the most on my eyelashes and eyebrows).

I only personally know of a friend who had alopecia then have a full regrowth and never have any experience of alopecia eversince (at least for the past 5-7 years up to till now), I also had another friend Hayley, who she is also a member of AW, had a spontaneous regrowth of almost 80-90% for a good 4-6 months, and then it all fell out again.

The only predictable thing about alopecia is unpredictable.

No matter what, you're not alone and dont let alopecia be an obstacle in living your life to the fullest and live out your dreams and passion.

Take care and God bless.

Hi Nick Sorry I didn't see this sooner, the questions you are asking will require more typing than I feel like, I'm a 4-5 year vet with every treatment and direction of this BS under my belt. I work nights , Im going to sleep now, But if you want to talk I can tell you what I know,
Joel
I posted a blog just a few minutes ago about my regrowth experience. It's been about 6 months of changing my medications and treating only my scalp with steroid injections... and now most of my hair is back. My body hair returned on its own. It's going to be a different experience for every person. I hope this experience works well for you!
