How old were you when you were diagnosed, and what treatments have you used? What were the results?

I was diagnosed 6 months ago at the age of 39. I am currently being treated by a dermatologist (shots and cream), acupuncturist, Chinese herbs, Reiki, and hypnosis. Just two weeks ago, the hair loss by my part progressed to the point I have to wear my hair pulled back every day to cover up the bald patches. It seems like the patches on the back of my head have stopped and there is even slight re-growth.

I was diagnosed about 2 months ago and have been to a dermatologist and using creams, he I felt wasnt overally helpfull and thought I should 'get over it' (as i was very emotional at the time). I started with one large patch and my hair is still coming out, i have a couple more patches now and I can still just cover them.
The pargest patch sometimes feels like it is prickly and others it feels smooth as, so the derm said it was growing back when i went back to see him so he said there was no need for injections, but I feel differntly.
So hopefully it stops falling out soon :)
Hi

My daughter was diagnosed when she was 12 years old.

She has had remission three times in the last six years and is currently in another regrowth period. She has never used treatments or medications. Her loss and regrowth are totally spontaneous with no help from lotions, potions or pills. Stress does not seem to factor into her regrowth and loss either. Her regrowth began at what would be supposed as a very stressful time in her life currently. Major exams and starting University. For her there has never been any ryhme or reason.

Hi, I was diagnosed at nineteen. I remember being really worried about it back then. I've never had any treatment as I usually only get 1-3 patches at a time, every couple years or so, usually no larger than a the size of a quarter. Luckily throughout the years, the patches have been in easy to conceal areas of my scalp.
I was diagnosed with AA when I was very young. I always had small bald spots every once and awhile. It never really bothered me because you couldn't notice them. Then for about 5-6 years I had no spots, I had 100% of my hair. All of a sudden(when i was 15 or 16) I noticed one small spot about 6 years ago and ever since then my AA has been pretty bad. I have always been able to hide it, but recently i have been loosing so much hair. I still can hide it in a ponytail but i feel like soon I wont be able to. This past month I lost so much hair. I tried the injections and cream and they didn't work. Then the Derm wanted me to take predinsone and I declined that.
I also have a cousin that had it and went to the Dominican Republic for one summer and recieved treatment there and has had 100% of her hair come back. This was two years ago and her hair is fine. In one month i am going to the Domician Republic to get treated as well and hopefully they will help. I plan on posting my experience and hoping it can help others.
Im actually leaving tuesday to go. I know that they gave her pills. I don't know what kind. The Dominican Republic has many many different treatments for alopecia. As soon as I get back i will give you guys the information and let you know if it works for me.
I was diagnosed a couple days after my 21st birthday (may third 09). I received a steroid treatment the same day. I'm supposed to have a 6 week follow up to find out if it's working. I can tell you right now it's not. Our insurance ended so i won't be receiving another treatment. I did find out that when i get back on my insurance they will buy me a wig (once in my lifetime). I'm thinking of getting one of those vacuum wigs... ?
I havnt tried anything yet as im waiting to see a dermatologist. I got diagnosed a weeks before my 21st birthday... april 09. I feel im coping very well. I do have days where i feel angry that i have lost my hair.
My daughter just turned 3 last week and was diagnosed 5 weeks ago. The fallout was very rapid but seems to be slowing down. We've been using LUXIQ but it has dried out the top of her head. I just posted that I called the manufacturer and they told me that it isn't FDA approved for children. So I am going to blast the dermatologist and either find something else or try another Dr.
If you find something that works and is not invasive let me know

I'm 48 and haven't been diagnosed by a dermatologist yet (waiting for appointment) but my GP said last month that I have alopecia ophiasis. As far as I know I've only been experiencing hair loss recently. It seems mostly to happen before 40.
