I hate when people ask why you shave your head . And then you try to explain to them that I have lost some of my hair , and shaving it is the best way to mask the affects of hairloss . And then they say " well you always had a full head of hair? So why is it falling out?" And they usually assume cancer right off the bat. I get mad but I try to be polite and tell them " no I do not have cancer , and I am not sick in any way shape or form , I am actually in better shape now that I have alopecia then I was before I have alopecia. Anyways I go on to tell them that I have a very mysterious disorder called Alopecia Areata. It's thought to be an autoimmune disorder in which your own immune system attacks your hair follicles and causes hairloss.
They look at me and say really ? I've never heard of it. But they give me a look as if I'm lying about it. Yeah like I made it all up. They act like they feel so sorry for me and it pisses me off to be quite honest. I don't want sympathy from anyone. It's hard to remain strong when you have people treating you like you just lost a family member. Treating you like your sick. It just pisses me off that so many people are unaware of this God forsaken "disease" . Bald doesn't automatically mean CANCER. People just assume to quickly before finding out the facts. If you are wondering why I started shaving my head over a year ago and am bald, ask me before assuming. Cancer shouldn't even be in the same category as alopecia. They AREN'T RELATED. And it also aggravates me how people think there is a genetic link in every single person who has alopecia. For some , I'm sure it's true, but NOT ME . Neither one of my parents have it or have ever had it. My grandparents never once had it , my great grandparents never had it . My great great grandparents never had it . And that's on both sides of my family. My mom and dad's side. And the only, "only" autoimmune condition that was even found in my family at all was psoriasis and only my grandmother had bouts of it. That is it. So no I don't believe that hogwash about it having a genetic link. Atleast not for everyone. I know there had to have been a trigger for mine , and I think the traumatic incident I had two years ago is what set it off , because it started almost immediately after.

I get what you're saying. Used to annoy me too. Now, if anyone asks I just say i have 3 weeks to live, a month tops and I move on.
KeTa, Luv it (LOL)!!
You don't have to waste your time explaining. It's not up to you to explain to someone that you're not sick. If they don't understand this, well they don't understand a lot of things. Keep feeling good you'll radiate to other people that you feel good.
