Alopecia areata

Can anyone tell me a little about alopecia areata? Symptoms? Is it permanent?

Areata is where you have spots of hair loss. From my understanding time will tell if it continues to totalis which is your whole head and universal is all over your body including eyebrows and eyelashes. I have found that dermatology websites and videos to be helpful.
