Alopecia universalis and cobalt chromium poisoning from hip relacement

Has anyone seen a connection to cobalt chromium poisoning from a hip replacement to developing alopecia universalis? I had the hip replaced 7 1/2 years ago. Recently it's been discovered that some replacements are faulty and according to the transcripts from the hospital, mine is one of the faulty ones which can create the metal poisoning.

I've always had very thick and healthy hair. Last May ALL of it fell out in two days. Yes, I had a stressful time shortly before the event, but it seems unbelievable to me that this can happen. I'm still shocked.I don't have diabetes or thyroid issues. Just a kidney ailment not requiring meds or dialysis. Lots of arthritis in spine and lots of pain. But WHY?

Thank you for any insight you can provide on this issue.

We could rack our brains to death about how and why it happened, but unfortunately there is no real answer. There are many theories, but again no one really knows what triggers any autoimmune diseases.

Thank you, Alo-mom.

Thank you, Howard.

Howard, I plan to have blood work for the metal next dr. appt. Would it best to ask my primary care dr or the ortho surgeon? I'll certainly let you know the findings.Thank you for your help.

Regards, Norma

Thanks so much, Howard. I'll make note of all your suggestions and try to get to the bottom of this. I've been very healthy , independent and active all my life (74 yrs)and just cannot believe how things have slowly gone downhill in recent years. No one in my family has ever had an autoimmune disease. Just seems odd.

The transcripts from the hospital I mentioned were the step by step procedures the operating team did during my hip surgery. That's where I found the product names of what was used and two of the names are ones they're having problems.

Will keep in touch. ns

did you also use eyebrows?

I lost everything including eyebrows.

Hi

Pms advice what to do urvent

That is more than obvious that the problem was in the way that the surgery, the hip replacement took place! Alopecia can occure after such surgeries, but it is not a very common thing to happen and also it depends on the things affected during surgery. My grandmother went through the same problems as you did some time ago. For anyone here I would like to suggest to use a website like endoscopicspineacademy.com when preparing for surgery. Showing it to your doctor increases the probability that the surgery will have only positive effects! I hope that I will save a lot of you from alopecia here, people!
