Alopecial Universalis Treatment???
Hi,
I had alopecia areata wen i was 8 yrs old. I used to get my hair bak on the patches but, i used to get a new patch on another area. Some stupid Dr. gave me wrong meds & within 3 months i lost all my hair everywhere!!! It was only after takin his meds that i suddenly started to lose my hair rapidly. Wen i was 12 yrs old, I had lost all my hair, including head, eyebrows, eyelashes. Since then, i hav been going to MANY Dr.'s hoping to get treated, but nothing worked as such. My hair grow bak from some places but then again falls.
My tough decision was to take steriods (0.5mg) only wen i was 17, as another Dr. said this was the only treatment for this type of problem. I took them for 4 yrs. I did get my hair back all over & much thicker & beautiful than before. But, i couldnt take those meds for long as it can cause really bad side effects. So, i had no choice but to leave the meds. I again lost all my hair rapidly.
Then, another Dr. told me to undergo PUVA therapy. But, i saw on the internet there is 5% chances of skin cancer & there r also chances of relapse of the hair again. So, i didnt wanna take this risk.
Another Dr. told me to get hair transplant, but, then lot of people told me that hair will still fall even after that.
Can anyone plzzzzz tell me if there is a ASSURED treamtment for Alpecia Universalis??? I really wanna get treated. I dont wanna live with this throughout life as i wasnt born with it. It was due to some stupid Dr.'s mistake. Why should i suffer coz of his mistake........PLZZZZZZZZZ anyone help me out????? I m desperate????????

Wel, its different in India. U just dont dare to do things which u feel like doing sometimes. I just cant go out without wigs & eyebrows at all, coz if I do, I m gonna get so much humiliation that I would possibly b so depressed that I would just lock myself in a mental hospital! Here, people wil just make u so depressed that they wil make u feel "outside" the society. They stare rite at ur face, laugh rite at ur face, mite even point their finger at u tellin that "yah v r talkin about u".
Things that I want to do, like para gliding, para sailing, motor boating, etc, where there r chances of ur wig fallin off, these things i just cant do at all!
I m not able to find the job i want, coz people judge me with my looks, not with the interview i giv. They just think that i mite b havin some serious disease & wont b able to take work stress. They dont wanna take chances.

have you considered getting a vacuum wig or a lace front wig? Vacuum wigs provide you with so much security that they aren't going to come off because they create a vacuum with your scalp. Lace front wigs also glue on or tape on and can be worn for weeks at a time. Personally I would prefer the vacuum because lace front wigs can be a bit annoying to put on with the glue and tape, but once on they are really great. Plus if you can't afford to get a vacuum wig they are a nice cheaper option. Have you ever tried explaining your disorder to your future employers? Maybe if you explained it they wouldn't be so worried?

Tks for the advice. I hav to find out if vaccum wigs r available here in India. Otherwise I hav to order from Lauren. But, there is one prob. with ordering, I wont b sure whether I hav ordered the rite one or not, since I havent personally tried it. Same goes for lace wig also. Lets hope both r available here. I wil find out this weekend from the wig shops here.

Wel, I went to Ayurvedic Dr. yesterday, he told me honestly that only AA & AT hav the chances of getting cured with Ayurvedic meds; but AU has no chances coz its severe form of alopecia. :(
The Homeopathic Dr. also said the same thing. :(
Alopatchic treamtent can cause serious side effects. :(
So, now I hav stopped goin to the Dr.s now. I m more concerned about getting the rite wig & look as "normal" as I can. I m starting to learn living with it now. :(

Yah i guess u r rite Aimee! I guess Ayurveda works on this condition "no pains no gains". So if u follow the strict ayruveda diet, u wil get cured. Regarding Alopecia, only AA & AT has more chances of getting cured than AU.

I m trying to liv with AU now, since i hav stopped takin treatments, as I m tired of it. Now only miracle wil work, i guess!
I hav immense faith in God & He gives me strength to move on! I luv my family! They r very supportive & encouraging! The reason I hav survived is coz of my family.
Did u get a hair transplant? The Dr. told me for AU it wont work coz chances of those hair falling r also there.

I was also thinking of the hair grafts but then I figured where to get the hair from???!?! LOL

Yah Dr also told me about hair transplant with synthetic hair, but as u said, the result varies. Some can get side effects, or hair may fall off & for some it may work. Wel, according to me, i dont think its worth takin the risk. R u considering goin for it??

Plz dont worry much abt this, we know what you have faced since childhood, and let me tell u that only you are stong that you survived all this, no one else could survie it, which means u r a special kid of God, plz try to look at d ppl who r more inferior than u, who cant even walk or talk, etc. atleast HE has given you all that, Touchwood. It is coz u a into Spirituality, only such ppl can bear these things no one else.
Steoids needed to be stopped, one cant risk life for their hair, its imp. than hair.
If ppl say stupid things to u, plzzz try to ignore or reply bk to them and tell everything to us when u come bk home, sharing will help you a LOT. And also keep in touch with other ppl with this prob, it will help you. If theres no cure for this then try to accept it and be more optimistic and keep following the Spiritual Path whcih you are following right now.
