Hi guys I'm looking for a bit of advice. A close friend of mine has alopecia universalis and has lost all her hair in the last 6 months. I've tried to be there for her but as I don't know much about the condition I feel there's only so much I can do to help.
She's been getting support from a charity who she seems really grateful to have found and I though as a way to pay them back and show support for my friend I'd raise some funds for them.
I decided I was going to do a sponsored headshave and shave my eyebrows and beard off too, I thought it would be good to raise awareness and show support to my friend but then when I spoke to the charity about they said be careful as she may find it patronising and take offence. I'm just wondering what you guys thought to the idea? I'm still sure she'd appreciate the gesture and be glad I raised some money for charity, but I guess I'm looking for a second opinion. Thoughts?

Thanks for caring about your friend.
You might want to support a national organization instead of a charity to help find a cure or acceptable treatment. I suggest www.naaf.org
I wouldn't shave my eyebrows to show support. Head/beard why not.
Your friend needs to be in the "Drivers Seat" in order to deal with her alopecia however she chooses.
Hope this is helpful.
After reading you note on Alopecia world I think it best she contact NAAF. I am a phone support person for NAAF and many of the women who call want to speak with someone with the same condition. It helps them because they can ask questions or pose concerns to people that have gone down this road. The organization is working with Dr. and Scientists all over the world to find a cure for Alopecia. If you go on the web you can see just how much they do. I would suggest you share all this information with her. You are a good friend and when my daughter was going through losing her hair it was friends that continued to love an support her that helped get her through this.
