I've had alopecia of every kind since 2. I'm 52 now. I'm a super sensitive person in every way. I'm sensitive to bright lights loud sounds temperature irritability on my skin. I have developed sjogren's and raynauds in my fingers and toes. I'm cold all the time! I'm probably missing something. I get hives out of the blue I find it hard to nail it to food envirnoment animals??? I just react to whatever it is sometimes and sometimes not. My whole life has been like this pretty much, it's just all getting worse as I get older. I need to give myself a B12 shot every 2 weeks as well.
Lately I started basic hrt as I've been getting nasty headaches from my pre menopausal state, which has been a roller coaster for many years. I had a total and complete massive skin breakout from head to toe with every kind of rash eczema hives you name it! I developed horrible rashes and itchiness in very uncomfortable places for months. Has anyone else been through this kind of thing?

I believe I have Sjogren's (dry mouth, dry eyes) and Raynauds (a dr. once told me I did) because I am always cold and my finger tips turn white or blue-ish when they are cold, and this can happen in the summer heat in an a/c store or something touching a metal shopping cart. I have gotten hives from nothing.
Hi
I think a lot of people dealing with alopecia also have to deal with other auto immune diseases...it's very difficult and challenging.
My daughter has alopecia, Life threatening food allergies, allergies to most animals, eczema and often gets hives when she isn't in an environment that is fairly monitored. I think for those who get hives, eczema it is helpful to work out the triggers and do your best to stay away from them.
I'm the same age as you are (52) and menopause is fully kicked in for me. I'm doing ok at the moment. I'm not doing any hrt etc. My view is if it helps good, but if you are getting severe side effects talk to your doctor or a specialist.

I have alopecia, eczema, and reynauds! My reynauds is dormant now but flares up sometimes. I used to be cold all the time and then my doctor put me on folic acid pills along with vitamin b12 and iron and now I'm much better. Still have the alopecia but the reynauds and eczema are doing good.
Thanks for the replies! I've always felt alone with this disease. Alopecia is so much more than just hair loss, it's a hormonal disorder for sure! Menopause is unbelievable! emotionally and physically. I'm the extreme. Lately it feels like dust is always in my eyes and nose, it's something to do with the hair follicles I can't tell you if they're growing in or falling out??Its awful. Every doctor I see looks at me with a huge "I DON'T Know what to do for you??". Now I've gone to a naturopath who has very gently put me on natural progesterone and a mild natural estriol hormone which has really helped my rashes and itchiness go away. It feels like I'm old before my time.
YEP, that is basically my story also. I am 61 this year and finally found some relief. Two weeks ago today I gave in and went to see my doctor which is something I gave up on many years ago. But I could not walk because of the pain and all other symptoms were out of control. This Dr. was so great because after I told her my story she said "so what do YOU want to try?" I said 10 days of cortisone but did not know there was an injection that may last three months. I took the injection and amazingly I finally feel normal! I know this has not cured my Lupus, but the fact that it worked told me that my body was overwhelmed with inflammation. I don't know why but I don't care either. I did some research and decided to only eat foods that had anti inflammatory actions. A client gave me a recipe for a "magic potion" that is basically a lemon, two cloves garlic, about the same quantity of Ginger, 1 teaspoon Turmeric, and raw honey. I also added Jaggery Gur, an Indian sugar with anti-inflammatory action. Chop all, blend with about two cups water and drink daily.I also now add a green tea bag to my water every time I drink.
I have tried so many alternative and mainstream treatments and never had results. For the past two weeks I finally feel NORMAL. I have energy, don't hurt, don't have digestive issues, depression etc etc...
I think many people might have inflammation that does not show on medical tests, mine are always clean but this condition has been the most consistent thing in my life for over thirty years (and before but not so bad)
I have no idea of how long this might last but am totally grateful for today. Given that the cortizone works, it tells me that the issue is inflammation as cortizone is not a pain killer. I know there are long term issues with taking it but if I can support my system and maybe only need an injection every three months I can finally live a normal life. People do not realize how much having these symptoms changes us as people. I became very sarcastic, somewhat snipey, negative and all that has gone now. Because I feel normal I am back to my old personality.
My hair has come and gone over the years, but I am thinking that since Alopecia is an autoimmune condition as Lupus is, there might be a chance this would help Alopecians too. In your case with so many other symptoms going on you might want to try this. Good luck
