So as far as I know I am very healthy, as are most alopecians, but my doctor keeps scaring me by saying that autoimmune disorders come in clusters. I am gluten intolerant, which I guess is also autoimmune, but I guess I'm wondering how common it is for alopecians to also develop other, more serous autoimmune conditions. Not that it's worth worrying about, I just would like to know.

Thanks--
Wendy

That seems to be the opinion of my doctor. My daughter had GERD (now considered an autoimmune disease) before she had AA and now a sleeping disorder, which is not an auto immune disease for and I'm thankful for that.

Dr. O'Bryan believes that the autoimmune disease is like a weak link in the body. Depending on your genetic disposition for eczema, Psoriasis or combination, AA, Celiac...etc, or a combination of these weak links, placing constant stress on your body well break the link or those links.

I'm 57 and have had alopecia since the 1970s. I've only been hospitalized once in my life, and it was for an unfortunate case of "infectious hepatitis" due to a 1970s coffee shop employee with poor hygiene habits. The only other time that I've been in a hospital was for out-patient surgery at age 51. Other than that, I take no medications other than a low dose antibiotic for rosacea and Restasis for dry eye. Every once in a while, I take an Advil for lower back pain, which at my age is not abnormal. I hope this helps put your mind at ease.

Has anyone with FFA also been diagnosed with Sjogren's disease?
