I am thinking of trying prednisone pulse and methotrexate and or sulfasalazine for my diffuse ophiasis pattern AA. Has anyone who has some hair tried oral steroids and was able to keep at least the hair they started with after the treatment stopped? My biggest fear, other than the side effects is that this could happen if the immune aystem kicks into overdrive once the meds are stopped which my doctor said could happen. I know everyone reacts differently, but I wonder how often this actually happens. Thoughts anyone?

Alopecia is totally unpredictable. Steroids will make your hair grow, but you can't stay on them forever because it would be detrimental to your overall health. So, unless you are in remission (which is not unusual with alopecia areata), once you stop the medication your hair well may fall out once again.

Thanks Rose Marie. I know the regrowth can fall out, but my fear is that I will end up worse that when I started.

Steroids will not make your hairloss worse...alopecia and what is does can though.
