I am slowly beginning to understand the wig options, but there some I don't understand. Is there a document somewhere that explains it all? What is the difference between a lace front wig and a different kind? What else is there? Pros and cons? Mono v multidirectional? What are the different types of wigs? I understand human hair and synthetic. I am probably going to order my 12-year-old daughter a wig from Freeda's (their discontinued ones) until I can get her a vacuum wig, if possible, but I'm not sure even what questions to ask or what we want inside. Any explanations would be great. Thanks.

Hi
I just wanted to explain a little about Freedom for you. The hair is not injected it is hand implanted. This technique is proprietary to Freedom Wigs. Other wig makers /manufacturers do not understand how freedom implants their hair so often give information that is not correct. The implantation process on a Freedom Wig gives an extremely natural look, no matter where you part the hair, it gives a natural movement so a Freedom Wig is very difficult to detect. The hair is fully secured within the cap construction. Freedom Wigs do not shed hair.
The cap of a Freedom Wig is water vapour permeable (again proprietary). What this means to the wearer is when you perspire the perspiration is able to pass through the cap keeping your head comfortable and dry, while still retaining absolute security for the wearer. You can swim etc in a freedom wig.
Freedom wigs use only 100% unprocessed Virgin Human hair in all their wigs. For me this is the best hair option for durability and looks.
I'm happy to pass on any other information you may like to understand about the Freedom Wig option as I am qualified to answer any questions as my daughter has been wearing Freedom for the last 10 years and I also help people in New Zealand with their Freedom Wig choices.
Good luck with finding something that works well for you.

There is not one good answer for every situation. My daughter was a highschool cheerleader when this condition happened. All lace wigs that she bonds to her head are the best answer for her. I replace them often because she is hard on them. There are several charities that you can get free wigs for your daughter. Try hairclub. They will give her free wigs because of her age. Wigsupport.com is a big help.
This might help: http://lifeasabaldgirl.wordpress.com/wigs-101-guide/
It is from my blog.
Your daughter might unfortunately have limited options because of her head size.
Thank you for the info. It is helpful. I called Hairclub but never heard back. I need to write a letter to Locks of Love but just have been working a lot lately and haven't had the time. Hopefully today I will.
Karen, thanks for the link, I will check it out.
Wisel, she has no hair AT ALL so that issue isn't there.
Alliegator, I read the blog -- thank you! My daughter is only 12 but is the size of an adult with a medium head; so I don't think the size will be a problem.
Keep trying hair club. A company called celebrity wigs.com was also giving free wigs to kids. I haven't ordered from them in a couple of years. There are alot of options out there. It is all confusing at first.
You're welcome! I see. Well there are adult "petite" sized wigs as well so if the average wig is too large for her, she could try a petite wig. Some styles are petite only, and others come in average and petite.
Hi Sarah
There are many options available for you to look through. Like your daughter, my daughter was 12 when she lost her hair - she is now 21 years old. Everybody will have a very strong opinion on what you should or should not do, me being no different. If somebody wears the wig that they love they will advocate for it as a means of helping others. That's a natural response for those that want to help.
I believe the best course of action for you is to investigate and talk to those that wear wigs and sell wigs. I did this when I was looking for my daughter all those years ago. By educating myself I become more confident with the choices available to me.
What helped was talking with my daughter around her needs. In my daughter's case she really wanted something extremely comfortable, very lifelike, easy to look after, and secure for her school life. Your daughter may require different things as may you. I think it is helpful to write a list of needs and wants.
There are two things that I would also investigate when looking for hair for your daughter. Be careful around the type of hair you are buying, as this will fully impact on the lifetime and reality of your option. There are two types of human hair 'Processed' or 'unprocessed'. Be careful around the information that is given with regards to human hair as it can be very confusing. If it is processed it should be very reasonably priced, but may have limitations with how it looks and how long it lasts. If it is unprocessed it will often be an expensive option, but in most cases this is cost effective for the feel, look and longevity it will give your daughter. The other option is of course synthetic hair, as my daughter has not worn this option I won't pass comment, but I'm sure there are plenty of people here who like this option.
The second thing is security, what sort of security does she need and what sort of attachment do you think will work best for her and her lifestyle. There is lace pieces which will require glue and tape. There are lace pieces that have silicone painted on the inside to give some security without glues and tapes (the silicone painted pieces have wefts which are often detectable). There are Vacuum wigs which is the choice I went for for my daughter. I'm happy to help with any info about those if you need it.
I realise this is like a new world and can be very confusing. I found my way and my daughter has been extremely happy with the choice she and I made together. Good luck with everything and if I can help with any further information feel free to contact me.
