Off to college

Posted on August 14, 2011 at 10:54pm 3 Comments

My daughter is starting her sophomore year and changing to a large university. We moved her down to her new apartment today because she is "rushing" this week. I really don't understand the whole sorority thing because I went to nursing school but it is important to her so, I support her. She has a new friend staying with her and she pulled me aside today to tell me this girl's dad is dying of cancer. I asked her if she had shared her condition with this new friend and she said no. I said, "you… Continue

Water activity, wigs and update

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 10:00am 7 Comments

I just wanted to update everyone that it is possible to enjoy water sports with a wig. We went to the lake this weekend and my daughter went boating and when a friend of ours pulled up in his cigarette boat she didn't hesitate to jump in. He found several boats to race and goes over 100mph. She did not think twice about her wig. She then went wake skating and fell at least 5 times, I was her spotter. She has given up on eyelashes in the water but wears waterproof eyeliner and sunglasses when in… Continue

Update on my college freshman

Posted on December 2, 2010 at 8:50pm 1 Comment

My daughter has had AU for over a year now and she has grown so much! She told me today that she told one of her new close friends and she said, "yea I already knew but didn't want you to be uncomfortable." She said the girls that know don't care and the boys just think you are gorgeous. This was a relief for her to reveal this since she never really knew if her new friends knew are not. I think this will help her courage to tell people in the future. She has been on sulfasalazine and has good… Continue

1 year anniversary of my daughter's alopecia

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 10:25am 1 Comment

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of when my daughter's hair started falling out. She told me this yesterday and wanted to contact some of the friends that helped her the most last year. She lost all of her beautiful waist lenth hair in 2 weeks. She was a highschool senior. She continued to cheer, party, do well in school and live a normal life. I shed alot of tears and have bought 8 wigs from all different makers and spent hours researching the disease. This site helped so much. Her boyfriend… Continue

I was reading some of the info on this site and came across a post that said that you buy your daughters wigs online for a good price. Can you send methe link. I also sent you a friend request. The wig I bought about a year ago was $1500 and it was long and human hair but I was thinking of getting a shorter one because they seem to be a little easier to deal with. Thanks for the info
