Has anyone else had sudden eyebrow and or hair loss after using a shampoo with Cocamidopropyl Betaine? I have had alopecia areata for about five years but suffered a sudden total loss of 1/3 of my eyebrow after using a shampoo that had this Cocamidopropyl Betaine as a major ingredient - believe it's used to make the shampoo foamier. Took the shampoo to my dermatologist who said she thought the new loss was associated with this specific ingredient.
Switched to Andelou Argan Stem Cell Shampoo, used ProTopic (a prescription item) and Aveeno Eczema Therapy lotion (suggested for eczema in my ear) on my Eyebrow. Also added Curcumin (Tumeric), Cal-Mag-Zinc, and a daily probiotic to my diet along with multi-vitamin and fishoil. It took five months but not only did the eyebrow grow back but I'm suddenly experiencing growth in the areas where I had hair (had to get my hair cut for the first time in five months!!!) I'm also experiencing small regrowth in areas where I the anthralin Drtho-cream that I had been using had created a serious irritation. (If you do use anthralin, I suggest wearing a buff over your head after applying this awful stuff. Buffs can be purchased online at Amazon at a low cost and will help protect your pillowcase and keep this nasty irritant off other parts of your body.)
Note: Article in Wikipedia states that Cocamidopropyl betaine was voted 2004 Allergen of the Year by the American Contact Dermatitis Society.
