Hi all.  Wondering if anyone out there has had success with coconut oil for regrowth.  I have been doing acupuncture for about 3 months now and had not seen any results for my alopecia (I have, however, seen drastic results for other things like my sinuses, mood, and energy level).  In any case, my acupuncturist told me to try applying coconut oil to my bald spots (I chuckle as I say "spots" as I only have one tuft of hair left so it is essentially one huge spot). :)  So I have been applying organic coconut oil in the morning and before bed for about 2 weeks now and I definitely feel a little bit of peach fuzz in a few spots.  I don't know if it's the acupuncture or the coconut oil (or even a combination of both) but I think things are definitely happening up there and I wanted to share my experience and see if anyone else has tried the oil.

There is absolutely no scientific evidence that coconut oil will have any effect on hair regrowth.

It's highly unlikely something as simple as coconut oil will influence a problem the human race has experienced since the dawn of time.

With all due respect, most of the treatments AA sufferers try are not based on scientific evidence.  If someone told me to rub cat urine on my head because it had worked for them I'd probably try it because when you're bald, desperate times call for desperate measures.  I would try just about anything to grow my hair back and if someone said it worked for them, why not give it a try?  My post was just about putting my feelers out there to see if anyone else had success and to share my experience.  Your response is quite pessimistic as well as a little rude.  We come on a website like this to vent and for support, not to be shot down with things like "that won't work so don't bother".  Anyway, hope you had a nice holiday.

Just wow Jen ,

Tone is a bit hard when typing but I had no intention of offending you .

I know what you mean to try anything but I can say with complete certainty it will not work. Coconut oil has no influence on immune signalling . Getting you're hopes up about that would be just cruel and as someone who has suffered a huge amount because of this pile of crap disease it would be just plain unfair.

If you are willing to try anything I would recommend treatments that involve targeting the immune system . Steroids, DCP etc.. of course none of these treatments are guaranteed but the chances of it working are lightyears more than coconut oil.

It irritates me when all these people claim to have the cure for hair loss and they don't . If they did, it would be global front page news. This is not a statement to you but to the people who prey on people who are desperate and decide to make a business opportunity out of our suffering. These people are the scum of the earth .

Thank you very much for your reply and clarification.  I admit I was very put off by your first response but understand now that you have explained.  I guess I am of the mentality that if something has worked for even one person with AA, I would probably give it a shot.  And the reason for this is because I am 40 years old and have had some form of AA since age 9.  Literally not a full head of hair for the majority of my life.  Nothing has ever worked for me, and trust me I've tried it all.  In fact, when my hair did grow in a few times (never completely) it was actually when I was doing no treatment at all.  So my apologies for my harsh response.  As you know, this disease is super frustrating and maybe I'm grasping at straws with the coconut oil but again, after 31 years of battling with it, I will try just about anything. Btw, I am absolutely with you about companies who claim to have the "cure".  Scum of the earth is putting it lightly. :)

Have a good day!

I haven't heard of coconut oil, although I might give this a try!  One of the girls that I work with, who is African American, told me that her sister has thinning hair and uses Monistat 7 and it works pretty well for her.  Of course, I had to try it.  It's been less than a month, but I swear I'm seeing some peach fuzz.  I didn't want to post anything on here yet because I wanted to give it more time.  But hey, for less than $20, you can try it and see if it works for you.  I also bought one of those "needling" wheels like the dermatologists use, and I "needle" my scalp first, then put the Monistat 7 on.  I am going to use the coconut oil on an area of my scalp and see what results I get.  Will write back in a few months...

Hey jen I have had alopecia since I was a little girl but it never came in full and bad until I was about 21 I lost almost all of my hair and tried everything I am a hairstylist so ive tried a lot and steroid injections u name it the only thing that has ever worked for me is natural oils I began researching and actually if u research coconut oil is absorbed quickly and it is in fact amazing for hair and being consistent can grow hair im sure everyone is diferent but after rubbing coconut oil and emu oil jojoba oil branghaj oil and others my hair is almost all back it would not shed and I seen hair sprouting where it had been bald for like 6 years then I ordered a oil from alopeciacure.com he is a ayuverdic dr in india and has treatments for 6 months span it costed me about 300$ but it is working amazing! they believe in healing from the inside out. but its the only thing that has ever worked for me it! consistency is key! once I started getting lazy I seen shedding again so u must be consistent. and its all natural and completely safe! if u have and more questions u could email me :)

Thanks for sharing. How often do you apply/leave it in your hair? How much hair loss did you have when applying? Should I apply to eyebrow area as well? I have heard about that alopeciacure.com oil but do not have the $ to buy that... was hoping to just buy oils on amazon. Can u recommend the ones that u think would work best? Do u think ur hair grew back due to to the alopeciacure.com oil or the other oils? Thanks again  for sharing :)

Brihngarj oil, sesame oil , emu oil, mustard seed oil, Amla oil, coconut oil, jojobaoil, almond oil, castor oil you could research it a lot will come up. Some u could get at vitamin shop and some at a Indian grocery store. I had like 75% my hair gone now I have like 80% of my hair just sparse in certain spots but I see baby hairs! I think that my oils worked great but definatly got even better with the Drs oils it is like $300 for 4 bottles and like 8 bags of herbs u apply to your hair . Try it ! But don't be discouraged if it doesn't work just stay consistent it could be months before u see some growth ! ;)

AnGeL...do you mix all of those oils together and then apply?  Or do you use different ones on different days?

I would mix pretty much all in a bottle except the castor oil I would rotate and emu oil I would apply and go to sleep with or just leave on and nights I didn't use it I would apply the emu oil or during the day if u only put a little emu oil it shouldn't be oily because it goes in skin fast

I see the mention of all theses oils. The common denominator is oil. I would think that any natural oil will work but also the rubbing stimulates the blood flow so that along with the oil may be what is working, or none is working and after several months the hair just happened to grow back. WHo knows. But others have said there is no cure at this time so the hair growth may be temporary. I had bald patches and used rogaine and after a few months hair grew back, then a couple yrs later I had bald patch in same place the last one was but this time my whole left sideof my head was now bald but again it grew back after several months and now 3 years later I got another bald spot in same place but also this time I have general thinning on top and the spot is not going away yet but I do see a few new hairs in spot but still have general thinning. I don't think spending alot of money on oilsis worth it. I would try cheaper oils and rogaine 5%2 times a dayand see what happens but know that even if hair grows back it can always fall out again at a later time. I know there are people out there who prey on people who need help and I hope it doesn't happen to you.Try what you want but be careful and good luck.

I'm going to definatly get that shampoo thanks! Where do i find it?
