I am kind of starting to get sick of wearing a wig all of the time, especially in these highly humid Georgia summers. I love riding horses, And it would be so nice to be able to give my horse a hug without worrying about getting my wig covered in horse hair. I am just about to finish high school so I figure this summer would be the time to do it because nobody at the college I am going to are going to know me as Dielle with hair. Currently no one here knows that I wear a wig (maybe they have guessed?) so I don't really want to do it right away. I am just concerned because it would be my very first time going bald in public. What reactions did you guys get the first time you went out without anything on your head?

Thanks. I am thinking of copying someone on here because they had business cards created that have their name and a link to a website that talks about alopecia so that if I get any inquiries (friendly or not) I have something to give people. All of my extended family has seen me bald so I am a little bit used to being around people without anything on my head. As for your "yeah, I'm bald...get over it!" that is where I am at now, I just really couldn't give a flying fig about what other people have to say. I just want to enjoy myself.
Good for you! I just printed some business cards at home...easy to do. I used some language suggested on AW, and my own. Here's what one side says:

It's not cancer, it's not contagious
IT'S ALOPECIA AREATA

Thank you and have a nice day.

Here's what the other side says:

Check out my videos on YouTube
about Alopecia Areata:

Alternatives to Wearing a Wig

and

Living a Bald Life

There are some things in italics, which don't come out on this post. I found myself writing down the names of my videos, so I just put them on the card to.

Good luck.
I know exactly how you feel, if you get any insight please let me know because I would love to take this step but am not sure if I am ready for it.
Hello Dielle,
I received a lot of compliments from both women and men, some stares, a few off stated remarks, but my world was beautiful and I was so happy to be free from the chains of covering up!
Well said: "The chains of covering up". I felt great relief and freedom and strength when I started going out bald in public.
