As far as I know in the general medical rule of thumb, no there isnt. You can try the various things like minoxidil, regaine and injections but they might work or they might not work.

Im personnally going down the alternative therapy, and nutrtional route and Iv had better results from it. Iv seen various thoughts with aromatherphy which have been successful even with AU, and theres lots of talk on hair forums about the uses of Cheese, Molasses, Biotin etc which helps with shedding, and hair condition.

I think its about experimenting and seeing what works for you, and sticking to it.
Hi Patricia,

Thank you for sharing. I had steroid shots and minoxidil before for 3 years. I stopped as I do not want to depends on it too much and minoxidil actually bring down my blood preasure it makes me so dizzy at time that I feel like fainting.

I just started a homeopathy + acupuncture treatments I pray that it will works.

Cheers
Hi Paige,

I have written several blogs on alopecia...hope that all of us will understand alopecia areata better...you can visit my blogs and posts by clicking here.

alopecia is just simply a condition where there is an absence of hair where it should normally be and there are a myriad of treatable causes of alopecia. However, there is a different story for alopecia areata, where most of us here are diagnosed with.

Take care.

the answer: Not yet.

God bless

Joshua
Hi Joshua,

Thank you so much. Let me read through your blogs now to know much better about alopecia areata :-)

You too keep well and a great week ahead. God bless

Paige
There is no cure for any disease, including alopecia.
You can only talk about success rate in the treatments available.
Modern medicine has pour success rate for treating alopecia (not to mentioned side affect), so I am always for safe and natural treatments.

If I compare my 6 months (steroid injection and steroid creme treatment) to Ayurveda oils treatment (8 months), result witch I have are 100% in favor to Ayurveda treatment.

I am surprised why doctors don't have this kind of treatment available and why they don't do some kind of research. 80% of success rate should be very interesting reason for further clinical trials.
Hi Paige,

If only there was a guaranteed cure we all would not be here. However my 8 yr old daughter is doing squaric acid treatments and has regrown almost all her hair back. Squaric acid is one of the irritant treatments.

Hi Paige,
Medical science does not have a cure for alopecia.

For those of us with alopecia, this is how the disease process has manifested in our bodies (our immune system is where we are most susceptible) and for each one of us the reason we have alopecia is slightly different - some may have to turn their diet around, some may have to address stress issues and for others it may be a combination of factors. The more I talk to people with illnesses, the more aware I am of how we all instinctively have some idea of how we got to this place.

The great news is that our bodies are capabable of healing, as they can with any other disease. Just as the cancer patient has to determine what is causing the tumor in her body, we have to tap into what is causing our hair to fall out. We are far better off looking at ourselves under a microscope and discovering what is causing the dis-ease in our bodies than putting the responsibility on to doctors, who are just treating our symptoms.

'When The Body Says No' is a wonderful book written by Dr. Gabor Mate that goes into some detail on this. His book was my wake up call and I am so grateful to Dr. Mate because it was the beginning of my journey toward healing.

I'm reading every ones replies on a cure for alopecia and then thinking to myself. there is something wrong with me. I don't want a cure I NEED ADVISE ON LOOSING MY HAIR FASTER. I really don't mind having AA. I live in South-africa and almost no one knows about Alopecia. As far as i know i'm the only S.A person on this site. I shave my head and don't where a wig when i go out.The worse thing for me having Alopecia is that i'm stuck in the middle, i have bold spots and some hair left I will rather be bold then being where i'm now. People stair. So what. This condition hasn't change me, I'm still me minus some hair. My heart goes out to every one that is struggling with Alopecia and the hair loss. But if there is any one that can give me advise on losing the rest of my hair please let me know.
Hi Paige I have used the creams, had the injections and then as a last resort topical immunotherapy using DPCP which did bring my hair back for a year but the treatments are very nasty, swelling, blistering, peeling and then I ended up with hives and had to take medication for two years to control that. So after all was said and done there's nothing else that the doctors can do for me.
Hi Susan,
When injections and creme didn't work, my dermatologist also suggest this kind of treatment (DPCP). Boy... I am so glad I didn't go for it...
The relapse rate with DPCP and any of the other contact sensitizers is very high. That includes DNCB and SADBE.

I also chose not to try it. At the time about 15 years ago I asked my physician, the chairman of the Dept of Dermatology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC, he said that it's not officially approved for use in humans and the long term effects were a big unknown. The literature today will say that there are no known long term effects.

Nowadays, the protocol for using it is different than even 15 years ago. The physicians who do it the most and have the longest years of experience ( Dr. Jerry Shapiro at UBC has one if it not the most experienced practices ) have reduced the concentration of the solution. They've discovered through experience that a blister effect is not required to elicit a growth response. It's still not the most pleasant nor most convenient treatment to try, and it does not do anything at all for a vast number of people, but it's a bit more tolerable as a treatment than in prior years.

Here's my last update and links so you can read further info ...
Hello there Patricia! You seem to have a lot of insightful information. Can you respond informing which foods are great for promoting hairgrowth, as well as which foods people with hairloss problems should avoid? How is your alternative therapy going? What type of alternative therapy have you selected? Recently, I've kicked to the curb Suave Shampoo, and the kids use Head & Shoulders Shampoo. They eat really healthy, etc. Also, they receive the injections every four weeks for now (completely their choice), and we have been able to naturally conceal their spots ~ so far. Any information you can share would be appreciated.
