Deciding whether Xeljanz is worth the cost

Hello all,

I have an appt with Dr. King in two weeks but I am really struggling with the idea that I have to decide whether Xeljanz will be worth the cost.  I have had AA since 1989 but have had AU since 2012/13. I have tried all the known treatments and none have worked.  Insurance most likely wont cover the cost of the xeljanz and I have to decide if it will be worth the $25k it would cost.  I dont have that kind of cash lying around so it would be a loan or an IRA distribution. I'd love to hear what others think

It's a big step...We have an appointment as well with Dr. King in mid-June. (for my daughter) If you think of it in terms of trying it for 6-9 months..then maybe you can see if it works first. At some point the FDA will approve it for Alopecia...so you will be just bridging the gap. For us, we want to know that we have tried EVERYTHING before letting nature take it's course. It's clearly a personal decision but think of it as a first step. Please keep us updated on your journey. Best of luck

Don't forget about the pfizer copay card. I would say use that at first and get your first three months for free then decide if you want to continue with it..

Oh this sounds interesting! I didn't realize there was such card. Our company United Healthcare like most will not cover the med. I have a wonderful deem who has tried to script it with it being declined in Insurance.

It's a card you download directly from the pfizer site. Check out the xeljanz discussion from ADML.. it talks all about it in there. I used it myself and got the rx filled from CVS with no cost for 3 months. Good luck!
