Hi there,

I tend to read online a lot. I belong to a lot of hair loss and wig forums.

I have even recently started participating in them :)

The information I've gained has been so amazing, and invaluable. I myself researched for over 6 months before biting the bullet, and purchasing my first hair piece. I ended up choosing a human hair topper, and I'm so so happy with my choice.

I myself don't have alopecia. I have hair loss from taking birth control, that never ended up getting better. Total loss thus far is about 60%. And it's still coming out. I have found some great information and experiences in this section of alopeciaworld.

I guess all I want to add is this thought: if you are finding yourself scared or on the fence about purchasing helper hair, I urge you to try. Don't be scared :)

I don't believe it's admitting defeat if you purchase a wig. And if wigs themselves are so alien to you, then just keep reading online through all the myriad of stories by women in your exact position who purchased hair.

You are soooooo not alone, and in some pretty great company. You'll also see how amazing and inconspicuous wigs and toppers can be.

It shocked the heck out of me when I saw others photos, and how seamless it could all be. And I became so relieved that no matter what, there would be options out there if my hair loss grew worse. Which it inevitably did.

I see myself in the mirror now with my topper, and I really feel gorgeous. Before, I was struggling for what seemed hours in front of the mirror, adding millions of products, hairspray and Toppik just to leave the house. And I still didn't feel confident.

Now I clip my topper in after I get dressed, and in 5 seconds, my hair is beautiful and good to go. Such relief. And it saves me a lot of time too, obviously.

Take good care of yourself, and don't be scared. You didn't choose hair loss. You don't have to pay some penance for a situation that you had no control over :)

It's not a cure, but for many of you out there, it could be enough to let you carry on and enjoy life.

This is just my personal experience. Please know that I'm not trying to belittle your pain or difficulties dealing with this. I still struggle seeing my hair coming out. But I have a good life, and luckily an amazingly supportive boyfriend, and I just didn't want to be a victim to it. Helper hair really did do just that - helped me :)

I hope if you're on the fence, and you want to try it, that you will. Just do lots of research, and you'll be okay.

That's great what about eyelashes and eyebrows, I am dying because I have none.....if you find something that can help with that I would really appreciate your input
Eyebrow tatooing worked for me. I couldn't believe how natural they look and neither can anyone I tell. If you do it, go to someone eho does cosmetic micropigmentation. Do your research. I will show you a photo if you wish. They can also do eyelining as well. Take care.

I have no eyelashes or eyebrows and I finally broke down and got both done by a permanent make up artist that lives in Chicago.  He does travel to the L.A. area and N.Y.C. area also goes to Austin TX as well.  What he did changed my life.  I still have issues dealing with my hair loss but at least now I am confident knowing that my face has expression if I don't have make up on.   I can go to the beach and not worry, I can answer the door without feeling strange and I have had people compliment me on my eyebrows not realizing they were not actually hair.   It was and is the best decision to have it done, for me anyway.

If you want to know more just post back.

Jo

I am 35 years old with no hair .... I wore wigs 25 years .. now I wear scarves ... I think that wigs are a challenge for women .... it interferes with life because it severely limits
What kind of topper did you get? Sounds like you did a lot of research before purchasing. I need one for my hairline - bang area. Thanks!

I am LOVING this post. I lost all my hair 2008-10, including brows and lashes, now pretty much AU. For me, it's just about finding a way through now that suits enough, leaving the perfect solution (hair regrowth I could actually trust to stay?) alone, as its out of my control. I got brows tattooed and bought a wig 18mths ago, and that began to bring me back to myself. Now I've got a better wig, and I feel more my old self. Really, that's the best I can do, and it's more than good enough. I can regroup and move on from here; I will deal with the dating issues as and when. In the meantime I feel my kids and I can start to recover from the shock, which is healing time I'm truly grateful for. I go under the radar for now as a result of my beautiful wig, and that buys us all time to work out how we play it from here on in. But I was lucky enough to find a HH provider who clearly wasn't ripping me off, and that's another whole thread! I agree, take the plunge, if you can find a provider you trust not to rip you off: this hair thing can cost you crazy money and make you feel much more victim-y if you feel your situation has been exploited. I didn't feel I'd failed - completely the opposite. This is tough - whatever gets you through the night in the best shape gets my vote. xxx

Vickibird...Who did supply your HH wig?  Yes, so many want to just take the cash, and they know they are selling you something that won't work out for you.

Hi Lexi, I'm writing from London, UK, so I don't know if that will help you? But I go to Bloomsbury Wigs, also known as The London Hair Clinic 3 NOrthington Street, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 2JE and I really cannot rate them highly enough. Finding them means I've found practical support and emotional support flows from that, for me. I'm not an expert on wigs but I do know their prices seemed to be way lower than I'd been bracing myself for, and their service is wonderful. Once I'd paid for my wigs, I seem to have got everything else at no charge....... Good luck anyway, with whatever you choose to do, and ahve a great day. x

That's wonderful Vickibird :)
Sounds like you are in a pretty good place.
And you definitely mirror my own sentiments.

Thanks for sharing about this.  Could you share what websites you visited and where you got your topper?  Pictures help.  Are you willing to share those?

I am also interested in learning more about the eyebrow tatooing.  Thank you for your help.  Pictures are really helpful here too.

I'm not sure how to friend you.  I will check that out.
