I have folliculitis decalvans. this is a scarring alopecia that causes the scalp to become redden and inflamed with trauma, it also scars the scalp. i shaved my head with the hopes of just being happy but it didnt work. instead it just made the hairless patches to reddened and swell. instead of looking clean shaven, i looked like i had tumors on my scalp. my dermatologist determined that i should not cut my hair anymore. now im sporting a flattened and dishoveled fro. however, i feel like the thinning is visible. i had a theory if i dyed my hair the same color as my scalp, the scalp and thinning hair will blend in. i have very coarse black thick hair follicles however they just few and sparse. i am african american with a very fair com

I wouldn't dye it - I have a feeling it would make your scalp VERY inflamed.

Have you looked into toppiks? They have a product that are little fibers that cling to the hair you have and fill in the sparce areas. Just a thought that may help some. I would be afraid that the dye might exacerbate the scalp situation. Ask your derm about it first. Let us know what you decide.
