Has anybody seen an endocrinologist to deal with this? I am currently seeing a dermatologist and acupuncturist, and my chiropractor recommended I see an endocrinologist, even though my hormone and thyroid levels are normal.

Hi

I don't suppose it could hurt to go to an edocrinologist. Sadly, I feel they may all tell you the same story if you are trying to find treatments and cures for alopecia. Some treatments work but are never able to be used long term, they also never work for everyone. At the moment there is no known cure for alopecia areata.

Another opinion on your personal situation with this condition may be a good thing though. It would be dependent on what has already been said and if you have any other underlying problems that need to be dealt with.

Good luck with your decision.

Hi Aimee
I have never been to an endocrinologist, but I have been tested for lupus, and for hypo- and hyper-thyroidism. None of which I have but my father and sister do. Guess they are all somewhat connected. I don't think it can hurt by going to see what they have to offer. Good luck!!
Hi -

What is available to try and stimulate regrowth in mild to moderate cases of alopecia areata is commonly known by any competent dermatologist.

If your internist thought you had some other autoimmune condition that needed further work-up and evaluation then you would see an endocrinologist, but doesn't sound like it's the case.

Hi Aimee. I am currently seeing an endocrinologist now. All my hormone & thyroid levels are normal as well, but my doctor was concerned about the vitamin d level. He said that I was very low in having vitamin d, so he prescribed some vitamin d for me to take for 12 weeks. He said that Vitamin D could be the cause of my hair loss. I am also done with the bottle and I have noticed very little hair growth but I am not sure if it is even coming from the pills. I am due to check back with him next month to check my vitamin d again.
hi amiee: am curious what the acupuncturist is for and how if at all you think it has helped. i am recently diagnosed. sorry to offer a question and not an answer but i am desperate for alternatives at this point.
Hi Amiee,
I did see an acupunturist several years ago...I still had hair then. I went because at the time I was exhausted and was not able to function normally. I too took some Chinese herbs for hairloss. I don't know if it helped because I also had severe issues with excess body heat. The sessions did help me get my level of energy back up. There seems to be so many things to take into consideration....what a complex species we are! LOL
