Hello everybody....hope you are all having a good day.

I have a question....I lost hair from my temples backwards on both sides and also along the front of the hairline about half a centimeter in depth....now I have noticed that along the hairline and along the front/middle of my patches I have downy white/blonde hair....but in one of the temple areas I have downy hair in the front and exclamation hairs around the back and side edges! What is that all about? Any input would be fab thanks

I got permanent white wispy hair after AU and AT. I think exclamation hairs are where it is about to fall out, during AA. Not sure if yours will grow back there, but when I used to get those hairs (E.H.) during AA, my own hair would eventually come back.
My noggin has gone thru 70% fallouts and regrowths a handful of times over the past ten years and Ive never seen any 'exclamation' style hairs .

I think my scalp flunked Punctuation Class !!

It's probably slightly different for you as I have AU, but I too have exclamation hairs! Just random strands that stand at attention but I really don't notice 'em unless the sun hits at the right angle when I'm looking in the mirror because they're translucent. Good luck to you, I hope this is a positive sign! :)
From what I understand from google lol...the exclamation hairs are broken off hairs at the edge of an active patch....so I was thinking the patch is still spreading outwards in one direction, but the new white hairs weren't there when the patch first appeared...it was totally bald in the beginning...so the white ones are new hair but I don't know if that is a sign of proper regrowth or what...bah...I am so confused lol.....thanks for the replies people! And thanks Robb for the comedy in there lol xx
I was told by my dermatologist that the exclamation hairs are generally where there is alopecia activity and eventual hair loss. Those are the areas where I would get local tri-amcinolone acetonide cortesteroid injections, to stop further hair from falling out (apparently the body is not producing enough of the chemical needed to shut off the immune system from attacking the protein follicles at the end of the hair root-as well, studies have shown that it is only the dying follicles that are attacked and normally not the newest hairs). Within a month the hair normally grew back. For the last year I have opted to stay away from the treatments, as prolonged cortesteroid treatment can have a harmful affect on the body. I have AA and patches that develop here and there, but they've generally grown back after a few months with massaging the areas. The odd things is that all the new hair is super curly, and I have straight hair. Many men that I know who have had AA in the beard area have had the new patch grow in white. Hope this helps? Take care!
Thanks Jess, that is very helpful! I am due to see the dermatologist in a couple of weeks so hopefully I can get the shots too. I have new hair at the front and middle of the patches an the exclamation hairs are less than they were so hopefully its just a case of them falling out and the patch filling in. I am quite hopeful with this episode as I have not even had it for 4 months yet and already I have new hair....so fingers crossed. x
