I have a friend whose 13 year old son has alopecia. He is getting shots to grow his eyebrows. But she was wondering this: would tatooed eyebrows look too feminine on guys? Also, does anyone know of someone in PA who does a good job with eyebrow tatooing?

Thanks!

How about trying eyebrow transplant i heard better results with that on a few articles.
I have a great Paramedical Tattoo Artist who did my eyebrows. You can take a look at the results on my page.

Jeff
They look great! Did you get them done in CA?
Thanks,
Yep got them done in CA
From a man's perspective, I see this no different than having a tooth capped or plastic surgery on a scar. Cosmetic, yes...feminine, no. Bottom line, this is his choice.
I use these for me, and they are great. If they are nervous about tattooing, these are very easy to use and in my opinion look a lot better! I've never tried the pair they sell for men, but the pairs for women are amazing.

I am glad you asked this question. I am a man (18yrs old) who is dealing with slowly losing my one of my eyebrow for the past 2yrs and only one lash for a about a year. I have not lost any of the hair on my head yet(knock on wood). But I have lost some nice chucks of my facial hair. O how I wish it would just stay there.

So far I have been able to get away with penciling in some color and cutting back the other brow. But I am not sure how much longer I will able to get away with this. So I have been doing a little research into permanent makeup/tattoos. I still need to do quite a bit more since there are so may unknows.

Like
1. If my hair decides to come back what will it look like with the the tattoos
2. If I loose the rest of my hair (really hoping this does not happen) what will the brow design look like without hair.
3. Since I am only losing one brow what will I do about the other one. Will I be able to keep cutting and have it look ok.
4. If I get a head of gray hair like my dad( which I think will happen and don't really care about as long as hair is still there) How will the color match.

As you can see there is quite a bit more research. Unfortunately for men there is not as much info out there as there is for women.

I have been trying to look at as many pictures I can find to get an idea on what they will look like.

Some have not looked so great. Others look very nice like Jeff's and I have a very hard time telling they are tattooed on. I think if I did not have alopecia or was told I would have no clue that they were tattooed on. I guess it just goes to show how important it is to pick the right person for the job.

Here are few links that I can across that show some examples for men. I anybody has more links I would love to see them.

Here is a video of a man getting them done. I thought his were done very nicely.

Here is one link I found advising against it. It says if you don't have any hair there it will not look realistic and you run the risk of them turning green. But some of the well done ones seem to prove this wrong.

Sergio, you mentioned eyebrow transplant? How does this work for people with people with alopecia since the cause of it is different than normal hair loss?

I am also planing to mess around more with the pencil and powder a little more to see what type of effect I can get with learning some more techniques.

Well I guess I have rambled enough. If anybody has any more info, advice or examples I would love to hear.

Thanks

Chris
Hey Chris,

Keep looking and perfect your technique.
My advice would be if you start losing more eyebrows have the tatoo before they are all gone. That way you will have a guide for the professional to go with. Also as you said make sure you get a person who knows what they are doing. A friend of mine had his done by someone and they turned orange and had to be romoved... Ouch!!
Great video Btw

Jeff
That is good advice Jeff. I plan on making researching this my summer project. I want to make sure I know what I am doing before I jump into anything.

Heres an article on transplne when you didnt have look with shots like in my case.

Successful Hair Transplant of Eyebrow Alopecia Areata

Abstract
Background: Alopecia areata of the eyebrows can be difficult to treat. Intralesional triamcinolone or potent topical steroids are considered the mainstay of medical therapy. This case illustrates the results of an experimental hair transplant to the eyebrows following years of modest response to intralesional triamcinolone.
Objective: The aim of this study was to ascertain the benefits of a hair transplant for chronic eyebrow alopecia areata not responding to appropriate medical therapy.
Methods: A hair transplant was performed with tumescent anesthesia and a total of 85 mini and micrografts placed in the right eyebrow. Followup after the hair transplant occurs every 8 weeks.
Results: The patient was free of eyebrow alopecia areata for 8 months following the initial hair transplant. Although the disease relapsed, hair growth is now manageable with intralesional cortisone injection performed six times per year.
Conclusions: For the first time in years, this patient was given 8 months of reprieve from his eyebrow alopecia areata and is currently well-maintained on monthly intralesional cortisone which originally was of only modest benefit. The patient is pleased with the outcome.
