Eyebrow tats vs. glue on eyebrows . . .

I am new to this site and so excited to "meet" so many people dealing with this issue (though I wish none of us had to at all!)

I have alopecia totalis (had alopecia areata since age 4, which progressed to totalis at age 23) and lost my eyebrows about 4 1/2 years ago. I had them tattoed on and they've faded with time. I'm going for a second tattoeing in a few weeks and am SO nervous. I just keep remembering how much it hurt the last time. Bleh. I just can't deal with not having eyebrows anymore - I work out every day (spin classes, weights, running - basically getting super sweaty, ha) and I am SO self concious at the gym about my eyebrows (my eyebrow makeup wipes off when I sweat.) I'm totally second guessing my decision now because I've browsed some discussions about the fake eyebrows that you glue on and it seems people are really big fans of those. I'm wondering, does anyone have tattooed eyebrows AND also uses the fake ones from time to time for a more natural look? Can you even do that? Has anyone done the eyebrow tats but moved over to the glue ons, or vice versa? If so, why?

I have had eyebrow tats, three times and I will not do it again. Its almost as if alopecia conquers the tattoo the same way that it conquers the hair. I use eyebrow pencil and when I am going to workout, I go to the bathroom, wipe them off with alochol and redraw them. This helps with the oils that your skin produces because the alcohol dries the skin up. Try it in your house first because everyone's skin is different.

Between the wig bangs and glasses, my eyebrows can't be seen. I only wear the eyebrow powder when going somewhere dressy, with air conditioning! No glue, no tats, no melting, no fuss!

Hi I'm nicola,

I've suffered with alopecia universalis for a year now. i've lost every single bit of hair on my body. I spend every day worrying about how i look anyway so this has made things a million times worse....! all i can say is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT buy these glue on eyebrows - they're absolute rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!! i also do a lot of exercise so i know what you mean about drawn on ones sliding off you face. i have mine tatooed on and they can use a numbing cream first - i love them and it makes life a little easier!!!

Thers a eyebrow pencil actually its like a pen from anastasia at sephora and it really stays on even through water u should try it! It takes a lil practice i would get mayb one shade darker than u usually use

Hi, I hope the 2nd appointment for your eyebrows was not too painful. I am a cosmetic tattoo artist. I started out over 6 years ago and the technique I was originally taught was really painful for people (as well as not looking very natural) I find the combination of using a really efficient digital rotary machine, good anaesthetics and using an ultra fine hair stroke technique (to create ultra fine strokes u go slow and shallow in the skin, deep and hard = not such fine strokes) the treatment pain is very minimal. A lot of people say it tickles. Saying this, everyones sensitivity is differenent and one persons tickle is anothers pain! I am interested to know if you purchased some of the stick on eyebrows and how you got on with them? I didn't know about them until I joined this site and I am impressed with how they look. It is always good for me to be able to let clients know their options.. if they are nervous about having the tattooing it is good to be able to come up with alternative plans such as having the tattooing done in a very minimal and in a soft colour and then using the stick on eyebrows in the evening for a fuller look when more make up is worn. I have attached before and afters of the eyebrow tattooing done in this gentle way.
